I’m fully convinced that there aren’t many better ways for an artist to pay homage to their heroes, than by covering their hits in a tribute album.

With that being said, we have one helluva tribute album out today…

And it’s for one of the greatest rock bands of all time, The Rolling Stones.

Titled Stoned Cold Country, the album is full of country-fied, reimagined versions of the Rolling Stones’ greatest hits.

Producer Robert Deaton expressed his excitement for the new release:

“Four years ago, I had this idea of a Country tribute record to the Rolling Stones – the greatest rock band of all time. That we are finally here and introducing this project to the world is both gratifying and honestly, overwhelming.

I could not be more proud of the artists and musicians that participated on this album. As the song says… ‘It’s Only Rock and Roll But I Like It’ – I hope everyone will join us in celebrating 60 years of The Rolling Stones.”

Oh yeah, and the project features some absolute STARS, like Ashley McBryde, Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, The War and Treaty, Marcus King, Zac Brown Band, Lainey Wilson, Eric Church, Koe Wetzel and more.

STACKED.

The Zac Brown Band also weighed in on the project:

“We got to open for The Rolling Stones last year in Atlanta. When you meet artists you’re a fan of, it’s a surreal experience because they have been a part of your life for so long.

It’s like getting to hang out with superheroes.”

Right off the bat, the Koe Wetzel cover caught my eye… I mean, it’s Koe like we’ve never heard him before. But along with that one, Eric Church’s rendition of “Gimme Shelter” is a must-listen.

Written by Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, it was released as the opening track from band’s 1969 album Let It Bleed, and has gone on to be one of the biggest hits from the iconic English rock band’s legendary career.

A response to the tumultuous times of the Vietnam War era, Eric calls on longtime (now former) backup singer Joanna Cotten, who absolutely lets it RIP on this one. She should probably her name in the title given the amount of the song she takes center stage.

Here’s a look at the original, featuring guest vocals from soul singer Merry Clayton.
