Shea Whigham Joins ‘1883: The Bass Reeves Story’ Cast

Unfortunately, we still don’t have any positive news to share about Yellowstone.

As far as we know, there hasn’t been an agreement made after Kevin Costner’s filming schedule complications for the second half of Season Five, and it appears that we’re going to have to wait until November at best for the premiere.

There’s also a lot of uncertainty if Costner will return to the show at all, and there are some strong rumors being reported that Matthew McConaughey could be taking Costner’s place for a spinoff series featuring much of the same cast.

However, there is one show from Taylor Sheridan’s universe that’s in the works, that’s officially full go…

And it’s 1883: The Bass Reeves Story.

The show is based off the famed African American lawman Bass Reeves, who is known as “the greatest frontier hero in American history,” who worked during the post re-construction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, locking up over 3,000 dangerous criminals without ever getting wounded.

Many believe that Bass Reeves inspired the story of “The Lone Ranger” as well.

The show is currently in production in Texas, and David Oyelowo will star as Reeves, and the rest of the cast features the likes of Barry Pepper, Dennis Quaid, Forrest Goodluck, Lauren E. Banks, Grantham Coleman, and Demi Singleton.

With that being said, Shea Whigham is the latest to join the star studded cast, according to Variety.

Whigham is set to star as Col. George Reeves, which the show describes as the:

“Upright and incredibly cruel master of Bass Reeves.”

Whigham will also be starring in another Paramount series, reprising the role of Mitch Decker in the Waco spinoff series, Waco: The Aftermath, which is slated to drop on April 16th.

He’s also currently in HBO’s Perry Mason, and also played a role in HBO’s True Detective season one. Other features include Vice Principals, Gaslit, Fargo season 3, Justified, and Narcos.

The cast just keeps getting better and better.
