Easton first hit the scene back in 2010 with his debut self-titled album and immediately invoked comparisons to guys like George Strait, Joe Nichols and Justin Moore with his smooth, real-deal country sound.
His first two singles, “A Little More Country Than That” and “Roll With It” both went to the top of the charts, and Easton seemed poised to become country music’s next big breakout star.
Unfortunately we all know what was going on in country music in the early years of the 2010s, as Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” and Luke Bryan’s “That’s My Kind of Night” became the sound that Nashville record labels began to chase. I’ve always considered Easton one of the major victims of the bro-country era: He was simply too traditional to really gain the traction he deserved at a time when country radio was leaning heavy into the pop-sounding party anthems.
Easton had his last top-10 hit with “A Girl Like You” back in 2017, but was dropped from his record label shortly after the song peaked.
In 2019 he released “Somebody’s Gotta Be Country” to radio, a song that should have been a bigger hit and proved that Easton still has what it takes, especially as country music moves away from the bro-country era and back towards the more traditional country sounds of the ’90s.
But last year Easton got another break, after it was announced that he would be the first artist signed to the newly-formed Stone Country Records.
Easton released his first single with Stone Creek Records, “Marry That Girl,” back in March of 2022, and in June he dropped another single with a tribute to some of his country heroes, “Hey Merle.”
And now, Easton Corbin is finally back with his first full-length album since 2014.
From heartbreak songs like “Whiskey Don’t Take Me Back” and “In It” to small-town love songs like “Over a Girl” and of course the previously-released anthem to the country way of life “Somebody’s Gotta Be Country,” Let’s Do Country Right is fiddle and steel-soaked reminder of why Easton was such a rising star in the early 2010s – and why he didn’t fit in with the bro-country sound that would take over the genre.
For Easton, the new album is an opportunity to get back to his roots – and back to making the music he loves:
“What I love most about this record is that I had a chance to get back to my roots and make the true traditional country music that made me want to do this for a living. I’m really looking forward to hearing what the fans think and can’t wait to have them singing along to these new songs on the road.”
And for fans of real-deal, traditional country music, it’s great that things in country music have come back around to Easton’s style of music so that this album truly has a chance to shine like it should.
Because like I said, country music needs more Easton Corbin.
