Peyton Hillis Reportedly “Off Ventilator,” Was Coughing Up Sand After Rescuing His Kids From The Ocean

Last week, we were hit with the news that former star NFL running back Peyton Hillis was in the hospital in critical care after suffering from a swimming accident while trying to save his kids in Florida.

The former Cleveland Browns star had to be sent to the helicopter via helicopter on January 4th.

He had suffered “significant trauma” to his kidneys and lungs, but Hillis’ uncle, Greg, sent out a message saying:

“I just wanted to let everyone know on Razorback Nation that Peyton is doing better. He’s still in intensive care and having some problems with his kidneys and his lungs but the doctors say he is improving.

I just wanted to head off any rumors that may be started. I’m sure he would want everyone to know that he appreciates all of the prayers thrown up on his behalf!”

It’s still unclear how he sustained kidney and lung injuries rescuing his children in the ocean, however he was reportedly coughing up sand.

It was great to know that he was improving from his condition, although he still had a long way to go.

With that being said, Hillis’ girlfriend, singer and actress Angela Cole, gave us an even better update last night.

She shared to her Instagram account:

“A hero. So proud of this man and so incredibly grateful for family and this incredible hospital. Peyton is off the ventilator and is on the road to recovery.

Please continue to pray for he’s still got a ways ahead of him, but thank you for all of your prayers and love and support thus far. It truly makes all the difference. Today was a goo day.”

It’s incredible news, considering only a few days ago fans, family, and friends held a prayer vigil for the 36-year-old in Arkansas, according to TMZ.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Hillis and his family.
