The boys from ESPN’s College GameDay are finally heading up the mountain to experience some real college football…

Last week, my Mountaineers took down the #6 team in country in the Texas A&M aggies at home in College Station… and we may have single-handedly (hopefully) canceled their “Midnight Yell” tradition in the process.

Needless to say, the small town of Boone went crazy celebrating our big win, with students even jumping in the duck pond and descending on King Street to celebrate the right way.

Here’s a little bit of the scene from Boone last Saturday:

And believe me, there’s plenty more where that came from if you do a quick search on Twitter.

Plus, not only did we beat the team with the (supposed) best recruiting class in the country this year, as result of our win, College GameDay is coming to Boone for the first time ever.

But the best part is, they were actually schedule to be in College Station before the happenings of last Saturday… gotta love college football, right?

Anywho, there were tons of rumors floating around about who the celebrity guest picker might be, which is a long-standing tradition on College GameDay.

They tend to pick people with some sort of relation to the college town they’re in, and for the debut College GameDay experience in Boone, the choice was extremely clear…

Luke Combs will be gracing the stage in what will a huge moment for everyone associated with the Appalachian State brand:

Luke also shared his excitement to be appearing on the show, saying that he’ll be flying in between shows in Green Bay Friday night and another show Saturday to make it work:

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Boone, I’m gonna be your guest picker on College GameDay this week.

Don’t even ask me who I’m picking, you know who I’m picking, baby: Boone. We’ll see you up there.”

Last year, Luke played his very first stadium show at the home of App State football in Kidd Brewer Stadium, which was an extremely special night for him seeing as he got his start in country music playing small bars in Boone.

Let’s just hope that Lee Corso follows suit with Luke and puts on a Mountaineer head this weekend.

College GameDay is ESPN’s flagship college football program, and I really can’t overstate what a big deal this is for the school.

Make sure you tune in to see all of Luke’s picks around 11:30amEST, and GameDay airs from 9amEST to 12pmEST this Saturday.
