“Let’s go Dodgers?”
How about “Let’s go girls?”
Shania Twain’s Grammy-winning, female empowerment anthem “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” is a lock for getting people up and dancing.
Turns out, it also does a fine job getting MLB stars to mash line drives all over the ballpark.
In honor of Women’s Day, the LA Dodgers asked their wives and significant others to choose their walk-up songs for Sunday’s game.
And, as luck would have it, Dodger Stadium enjoyed back-to-back Shania courtesy of Chelsea Freeman (former MVP Freddie Freeman’s wife) and Cara Smith (catcher and clean-up hitter Will Smith’s wife).
Both ladies chose “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” for their husbands, who happen to hit back-to-back in the middle of the Dodgers’ lineup. And I think they’re onto something, because Freeman and Smith combined to go 6-for-10 with three RBI’s and two runs scored in a 10-3 Dodgers win over the Miami Marlins.
The Dodgers own the best record in baseball at the moment and are on an absolute tear this month, so it’s not like they need any more good luck charms.
But, according to Smith and some of his teammates, Dodgers fans might be hearing Shania for a little while longer if it means a few more hits.
Memorable walk-up songs are a great part of a visit to the ballpark. So, while “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” is certainly… unconventional for firing up a pro baseball player, I’m all for a little more country music at the stadium.
Plus, you never know what song will be the next “Baby Shark,” which drove the Washington Nationals all the way to the World Series back in 2019.
Personally, if I had to choose between the two, I’m going with Shania all day long.
