A couple of weeks back, Netflix dropped the trailer for their upcoming documentary, Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist, about the story of former star Notre Dame linebacker and Heisman finalist Manti Te’o’s fake girlfriend, who catfished him all through college.
Spoiler, it turned out to be a dude named Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, pretending to be a woman the whole time.
Needless to say, seeing the whole process broken down, and hearing both Te’o and Tuiasosopo’s sides of the story, was incredibly bizarre and intriguing in itself.
Still, it leaves so many questions. How could a college football player, who was the face of the sport at the time, fall in love with a girl on Facebook he had never even met? I mean c’mon bro, you’re surrounded by thousands of women at Notre Dame on a daily basis, and you choose to go this route?
It’s still pretty mindboggling to me.
When the story first dropped back in 2013, there were several theories about the insanely bizarre story.
Some were saying he used his “girlfriend’s death” as leverage to gain Heisman votes, and some were even saying he was covering up being gay, considering the person catfishing him was actually a dude.
However, Te’o is indeed not gay, and he has been married to Jovi Nicole since 2020.
With that being said, let’s take a look at who Te’o’s wife is.
The two linked up back in 2016, when posts between the two began to surface on social media.
Jovi Nicole is a self-proclaimed “fitness enthusiast,” and is working to become a nurse, according to the New York Post.
In February of 2020, the two of them got engaged, and got married in August of that year.
In 2021, the two announced that they were expecting their first child, and welcomed a baby girl named Hiro in August later that year.
Needless to say, it appears that Te’o has put the past behind him and moved on to bigger and better things, continuing his career in the NFL where he’s currently a free agent, after stints with the Chargers, Saints, and Bears, and starting a family of his own.
And now, they have a little boy on the way!
