Since Sturgill Simpson announced that he’s done making music as a solo artist after the release of his final album, The Ballad of Dood & Juanita, it appears he’s shifting his focus to another career…

Acting.

The man has been filming Martin Scorsese’ upcoming western movie Killers of the Flower Moon, and now, it appears he’s taking his talents to another film.

According to Deadline, he’s now joined the cast of New Regency’s True Love, written and directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

He’s filling in for Danny McBride, who had to dropout due to conflicts in scheduling.

Although plot details haven’t been revealed yet, it appears that it’s a sci-fi story that is set to be filmed in Thailand (sounds right up the Sound & Fury alley).

Other members of the cast include John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney, and Benedict Wong, and is co-produced by Edwards and Kiri Hart.

If the man is truly done with music, I’m glad his unique personality isn’t going away into hiding and has decided to pursue something else.

Sturgill has also starred in Melina Matsoukas’ Queen and Slim, Jim Jarmusch’s The Dead Don’t Die (he wrote and recorded the theme song as well), Craig Zobel’s The Hunt, and more.
