‘Yellowstone’ Explodes For A Whopping 14.7 Million Viewers On Season 4 Premiere

Yellowstone Season 4 Beth Dutton

Well, here’s the news we’ve all come to expect…

With as much anticipation Yellowstone Season Four has garnered over the past year, it was inevitable that the opening to the new season would blow the competition out of the water.

And sure enough, it has.

John, Beth, Rip and the rest of the Dutton crew have taken the TV world by storm.

According to Variety, the show reached a staggering 14.7 million viewers upon the release, with zero boost from streaming. It hit a staggering 8 million on the first night alone. For comparison, the 55th Annual CMA Awards only hit around 6.5 million.

Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of MTV Entertainment Group, weighed in on the huge achievement:

“Over 14 million viewers tuned in for our ‘Yellowstone’ premiere, which will now serve as a massive launch pad as we sneak episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s new series ‘Mayor of Kingstown,’ whose full season will be rolling out exclusively on Paramount Plus starting Sunday.

Taylor has created a cinematic experience that our remarkable cast led by Kevin Costner brings to life in a way audiences can’t get enough of and we are excited to deepen our relationship with him and capitalize on this tremendous momentum by building out the ‘Yellowstone’ franchise together.”

To this point thus far, the show is the number one TV series of 2021, and the season four premiere is the most watched episode since “The Walking Dead” in 2017.

The 14.7 million is up 58% from the season three premiere (9.3 million), and the show’s simulcast across Paramount Net, CMT, Pop and TV Land is up 66% compared to season three.

If you just factor in the Paramount Network, it’s up 10.5 million total viewers.

Paramount signed with Sheridan to create a number of Yellowstone spinoffs including the new 1883, as well as the upcoming Mayor Of Kingstown starring Jeremy Renner, Kyle Chandler, and more.

Needless to say, Taylor Sheridan has officially created a damn masterpiece, and it’s only getting better.

Buckle up.

During the first two episodes of Season 4, we also got new tunes from Colter Wall, Hailey Whitters, Blackberry Smoke, Ryan Bingham, Ross Shifflett, and TVÅ.
