Are The Pistol Annies Working On A Christmas Album?

We’ve known the Pistol Annies have been working on something for the past few months.

We just don’t know exactly what it is that they’ve been keeping a secret. Back in April, frontwoman Miranda Lambert hinted that they had “something up their sleeve”.

And then, in August, they celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their debut album Hell on Heels and said there would be something new “before the end of the year” in a post on Instagram:

In that post, they also say that this specific project they’ve been working on is something they’ve never done before. And, I’m fairly certain it’s a Christmas album.

Here’s why…

First of all, they have never done a Christmas album. So, that pretty obviously checks out in the “never been done before” category. Then yesterday, Chaz Molder, the Mayor of Columbia, Tennessee (outside of Nashville), posted this:

“Today, I was honored to welcome to Columbia, Miranda Lambert & the Pistol Annies including Ashley Monroe & Angaleena Presley.

Seeing them shoot music video in our town, on the same stage The Mulehouse where I had pre-school performances as a kid, was a moment I’ll never forget.”

I mean, if those outfits don’t scream Christmas album, I really don’t know what does. Though nothing has officially been confirmed, all the sequins and red lipstick are pretty much a dead giveaway. Not to mention the Christmas lights in the room behind them.

Plus, he noted in the post that they were in town shooting a music video.

With October just a few days away (I know, I can’t believe it either), we’re quickly approaching the time of year that you typically see those holiday albums announced and the marketing rollout start.

The Annies’ last album, Interstate Gospel, was released in 2018, so it’s been three years since we’ve gotten anything new from the girl group. I’m a huge fan of them, and I think they make some of the best and most unique music in the country genre, so I’ll be excited for whatever it is they (hopefully) announce soon.

And, you know double albums have become the recent trend in country music…

So all I’m saying is, I wouldn’t be mad about a Christmas album and another record of new, original music. That’s not asking too much, is it? I know for certain they’ve never done that before, either.

If they were filming for a holiday album yesterday, though, I like to imagine their music video shoot was a red and green, spiked eggnog-filled, holly jolly version of this gem (at least I hope so):
