Nickelodeon Is Airing An NFL Playoff Game This Year & “Sweet Victory” Better Be The Halftime Show

CBS Sports is getting creative this year for the NFL playoffs.

In a statement today released by Viacom, they announced that CBS will be joining up with Nickelodeon to broadcast a Wild Card Game on January 10th.

The game will be carried on Nickelodeon and will feature “kid-focused content” with Noah Eagle, Nate Burleson, and Nick Star Gabriello Nevaeh Green on the call.

CBS Sports tweeted out this teaser to give us a preview of what we can see from the game

In addition to the SpongeBob, slime, and googly eyes during the game, we’ll be greeted with a preview of “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years” a SpongeBob spinoff that will be streaming on Paramount+ later in the year.

This is a revolutionary idea and something we’ve never seen before. I’m curious to see what kind of reception this gets during the playoffs.

“Our game plan is to make sure the NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon definitely lives up to its name by infusing the telecast with Nick’s sensibility of surprise and fun at almost every turn,” said Brian Robbins, President of ViacomCBS Kids & Family Entertainment. “We’re incredibly proud to team up with CBS Sports and the NFL to elevate the thrill of this game for kids and families to enjoy together.”

For me growing up, the NFL playoffs were enough to keep my attention glued to the TV but for today’s generation maybe that’s different. With a much wider variety of content available, perhaps this really is the best way to get more kids interested in the NFL.

I suppose I’ll give it a try though on January 10th, but in all honesty, I think I’ll miss Tony Romo making his weird noises too much and flip back to CBS before the end of the game.

My only question… is SpongeBob performing “Sweet Victory” for the Halftime Show?
