She puts her love life into her music, and that’s what her fans relate to.
Megan Moroney has had a heck of a 2026, after scoring her first ever #1 album on the Billboard Top 200 chart with her third studio album, Cloud 9, earlier this year. Of course, she first burst onto the scene four years ago with her song college football-themed song “Tennessee Orange,” and since then, she’s had hits like “6 Months Later.”
And with all of that success comes plenty of curiosity about her dating life, and Megan has been linked to Riley Green, NFL player Nick Bosa, and most recently, soccer star Christian Pulisic.
In a feature with Cosmopolitan Magazine a few months ago, Megan explained that she was going to stay single while on her Cloud 9 tour, but when it ended in October, and it just wrapped up, she would be “on the prowl again” when she had more time to focus on that:
“There is something about having a crush that’s exciting, and when my tour wraps up in October, when I’m back from Europe, I’ll maybe be on the prowl again. Yeah, it’ll be fall. It’ll be cuffing season, but right now, it’s been so nice to have my friends and family out [with me] and that not be an aspect of my life that is any sort of problem for me.
I wrote ‘Hell of a Show’ about being onstage and having my biggest headlining tour yet and it being ruined. I’m crying right before I go onstage. Life is peaceful. I got a dog in February. That’s what I needed all along—no man, a dog.”
And even though it sounds like she’s stuck to that boundary, more on that in a minute, and during an interview with Nightline, she talked about why she’s so open in her music about her past relationships, and why she isn’t afraid if people know who they’re about.
Of course, she’s alluding to how she did everything but say Riley’s name in “Who Hurt You?” because she wasn’t afraid of what everyone would say about and wanted to speak her truth:
“I just care less about what people are going to say. It helps me put those emotions into art, and then I can just kind of move on.”
Because relationships are such a big topic in her music, Megan tries to give her fans advice, too, saying that her concerts during her 2026 Cloud 9 Tour are like “group therapy,” and she’s always telling her fans not to text their ex:
“I’m always like, ‘This is not a sign, don’t call them!’ I wrote this song and then called him, and I don’t recommend doing that.”
Her career has gotten even bigger this year, but she hasn’t been in a rush to write her next album, saying she needs to “live some life” before she can start on the journey of putting together a new project.
And when she was asked if she was seeing anyone, she stuck to her goal of not dating while on tour, saying she’s not thinking about dating or music right now and she needs to go “live some life” now that she has a break from the road, so maybe she’ll be on the prowl now too…
“I haven’t even thought about the next album, so we’re gonna have to live some life.”
But Megan did talk about some of her dating non-negotiables, saying that she wants to be asked out by a guy who isn’t afraid to use his words and straight up ask:
“Using your words, asking me out with words. You would be shocked to find out that’s not common.”
She also wants a guy who can “cut her steaks”:
“A guy that cuts my steaks for me. That’s weird.”
Honestly, I kind of love that…
And when it comes to absolute no-nos, they’re once again pretty reasonable:
“No girl best friend.”
And of course, she won’t tolerate any cheating:
“Let’s not cheat on each other. Let’s not do that.”
Megan also spoke about the passing of the late, great Dolly Parton,
“I absolutely love Dolly. I obviously took a lot of inspiration from her with her style, and honestly, when I was starting out, I would watch a lot of her interviews.
She thought more is more, but she knew who she was on the inside. She knew what matters is how you treat people and how you make people feel. She will be missed all around the world.”
Amen to that.
Megan is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year as a songwriter for “Beautiful Things” at the 2026 CMA Awards, which will take place on November 18th.
