Riley “Duckman” Green became Riley “Elkman” during a recent successful hunt out in Utah.
It’s no secret that the famous country music star behind hits like “Worst Way” and “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” loves to hunt. He’s even got himself a popular Nashville bar called Riley Green’s Duck Blind. But he also loves to bow hunt, and he fulfilled every bowhunter’s dream when he downed a freezer-filling elk out west.
The state of Utah boasts an elk population of around 82,000 to 84,000. They make an effort to keep that number above 80,000, and tags for elk hunting in the state typically cost a couple hundred dollars – depending on if the hunter is a resident or non-resident. And the sale of hunting licenses and permits directly funds the conservation of wildlife habitat and public land within the “Beehive State.”
Whatever Green paid was a small price, considering he got the experience of a lifetime. In the social media post sharing about his successful trophy animal hunt, Green highlighted the beautiful, mountainous terrain that he and those in his hunting party got to witness while tracking down the bull elk.
Spending a couple of days with views like that makes for a great trip on its own, but Green didn’t want to go home without a souvenir. He was able to track down an absolute beast, and managed to get close enough to take it down with a compound bow. Some people might not realize how tall of a task that is…
The only thing more challenging may have been hauling the elk out of there once Green brought it down. The country star shared some photos and videos of that process too, which is sure to get the attention of some of his female fans:
“Freezer is full… not many things challenge you like bow hunting elk. Thankful for a few days to chase ’em in the Utah mountains and that I was able to put it all together on an awesome bull.”
You’d think the new The Voice coach would be getting slammed by some potential new fans in the comments… we’ve seen that A LOT from the anti-hunting crowd lately. But it’s quite the opposite with Riley… the fans are LOVING it:
That right there is a monster bull elk.
Riley Green is just the latest country star to go out on a once-in-a-lifetime hunt. There are plenty of country stars out there that love to get out in the woods. Cody Johnson has proudly shared photos of some of the beasts he’s brought down, as has Chase Rice and Koe Wetzel.
Luke Combs was also out in Utah not too long ago to bag-and-tag an elk. He was attempting to bring one down with a bow like Riley did, but ended up using a rifle instead. I wonder if Combs and Green will chat about that at all… or if Green will give Combs a hard time.
The only thing Riley Green is going to have a hard time with is figuring out how to consume all of that elk meat.
It’s gonna be a lot of elk steak and elk burgers from here on out for the “Think As You Drunk” singer, and for anyone out there that’s had the lean, flavorful meat… you know that’s not the worst problem in the world to have.
