Looking out for his youngest fans.
Zach Top recently went viral for calling out an overzealous security guard during a recent concert.
It all went down while Zach was headlining Boots in the Park in Fresno, California. Early in his set, while performing “Lonely For Long,” he apparently noticed a security guard who was trying to make a kid get down from her dad’s shoulders. In between lines of the song, Zach called out the security guard and told him to leave the young girl alone:
“She can stay on your shoulders. Hey buddy, she’s a kid she can stay on his shoulders. Leave it alone.”
Unfortunately the distraction did cause Zach to forget the words, but he eventually recovered and the young girl continued to take in the show from dad’s shoulders:

Of course, not everybody in the comments was on Zach’s side, pointing out that people sitting on others’ shoulders blocks the view for those behind them:
“But the people behind can’t see anything”
“It’s fun for the kid, but SUCKS for the people behind them.”
“Everyone saying it’s great that she was allowed to stay on his shoulders only says that because they’re not standing in front of them and blocking their view.”
“I get the sentiment but I also don’t think kids belong at concerts either”
“The person behind the kid was almost able to see”
“And if the girl falls and hurts her self, guess who could be liable?? Not the singer.”
And while I get the sentiment that it might be annoying for whoever’s behind them, I think it’s different when it’s a kid versus a full grown adult. If they’re not on the front row there’s no way they’re able to see, and these are memories that kid will never forget, so I’m fine with parents who want to put their kid on their shoulders. (Unless their kid’s old enough to drive and get a job, then it’s a different story).
Of course there are also liability issues, which I’m assuming are the real reason security guards are told not to allow anyone to sit on someone else’s shoulders. But packed in like that, I feel like the crowd would be able to catch the kid on the off chance that she fell off anyway. Just crowd surf her safely to the ground.
All that to say, good for Zach for looking out for his youngest fans. Kid clearly already has good taste in music, and there’s no doubt that both she and dad are even bigger fans now that he stood up for them during the show.
