The Presidents Cup is underway, and the United States team already has a Toby Keith-related advantage.
If you are unfamiliar with the Presidents Cup, it’s a lot like the Ryder Cup. If you aren’t familiar with either… you must not call yourself a golf fan, and only clicked on this story to see how it all ties in with Toby Keith. We’ll get to that in a second, but first, a little bit about the tournament currently taking place in Medinah, Illinois.
The Presidents Cup pits a team of American professional golfers against a team from the rest of the world – minus Europe. It’s a team-based tournament that has been held on a biennial basis since 1994. The International team in the Presidents Cup has only won once against the USA, and that was all the way back in 1998.
The American team – consisting of Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, and Justin Thomas, among others – is looking to keep it that way.
And the U.S.A. squad has a rookie that’s leaning all the way in on the patriotism of the Presidents Cup. Jackson Koivun, who actually only has 15 starts on the PGA Tour, was chosen by Captain Brandt Snedeker as one of his Captain’s picks. He’s a young gun, without a doubt, but it’s clear he gets how much the Presidents Cup means.
Just look at the America-themed wedges that are in his bag this week:
An American flag, a collection of red, white, and blue stars, a bald eagle with “We the People,” and most notably, a shoutout to a Toby Keith classic: “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.”
If there was any doubt about Koivun being on the team, go ahead and throw that out the window. Anyone that loves Toby Keith deserves a spot on Team United States, and golf fans online are in agreement:

It’ll be electric when Koivun uses his Toby Keith wedge to chip in or finish out a match. I’m manifesting it right now.
The United States and International teams are set to play Thursday through Sunday at Medinah Country Club. On Sunday, one of the teams will lift the Presidents Cup. Here’s to hoping it’s the team with the rookie that is a certified Toby Keith fan.
