Powerful.

Yesterday, Lainey Wilson was part of the ABC News special which was a 9/11 tribute called Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan. It marked the 25th anniversary commemoration of the September 11 attacks, and she delivered a powerful rendition of “Amazing Grace” at the base of the light beams which mark where the Twin Towers once stood.

Ahead of the show, Lainey also took time to acknowledge the horrific day, saying she remembers exactly where she was when the world stopped turning, as she was in 4th grade in Mrs. Debbie Bryan’s class. She remembers them wheeling a TV into the room and everyone watching the unbelievably tragic news together.

She called it “an honor” to stand at the base of the “iconic beams,” remembering the nearly 3,000 people that lost their lives on that day:

“Where were you when the world stopped turning? I was in 4th grade in Mrs. Debbie Bryan’s class. I remember when she rolled in the TV and put the news on.

25 years later, I had the honor of performing in NYC at the base of the iconic beams where the Twin Towers stood and where nearly 3,000 people lost their lives. A night I’ll never forget. God Bless America.”

Lainey was backed by a choir of singers, and she delivered one of the best live vocal performances I’ve ever heard give singing “Amazing Grace,” one of the most iconic and recognizable hymns of all-time.

The Louisiana native grew up singing in church, so she’s certainly no stranger to hymns like these, and I think that aspect of her life and her faith comes through so effortlessly when you watch this performance.

Cyndi Lauper and John Ondrasik also performed as part of the special, but no one comes close to how moving Lainey’s was in my humble opinion. It was an appropriately somber moment, but she met it just perfectly, and I was just stunned and moved by her emotional delivery. It was perfect.

You can watch the full special on Disney+ and Hulu streaming platforms:

“As Lainey Wilson sang ‘Amazing Grace’ beneath Tribute in Light, the familiar hymn became a moment for people across the country to pause and remember together. Twenty-five years after 9/11, we continue to come together to honor those we lost and reflect on the strength, compassion, and unity that followed.

‘9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan,’ presented by ABC News in partnership with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, is now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.”

It’s just stunning, and especially considering Lainey’s background in gospel music, I would absolutely LOVE for her to do a gospel or Christian album one day.

Lainey always puts on great, high-energy shows and performances, but seeing her like this is something special:
