This week, Kacey Musgraves released her sixth studio album Middle of Nowhere, which Musgraves produced alongside longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk. It of course featured the highly-anticipated duet with Miranda Lambert, “Horses and Divorces,” in addition to the super talented Billy Strings on the album. She also featured legendary Texan, Willie Nelson, on a song called “Uncertain, TX,” which she previously debuted solo at Coachella.
And Kacey is taking an incredibly unique approach to promoting this new record, and of course, she’s doing it in the most Texan way possible… Kacey shared a video on Instagram earlier where she dressed up in a full armadillo costume and went to various stores to look for the album.
It starts off with her in Walmart, just being a menace in the store, and eventually, she asks a woman working there if they have the new Kacey Musgraves album, and she had an absolutely iconic response, clearly having no idea who Kacey Musgraves was, much less realizing the fact she was standing right in front of her:
“I don’t recognize that name.”
That part took me out, honestly… too good.
Kacey captioned the video with that iconic quote:
It’s something I’ve never seen another artist do, and I appreciate a girl that can do both in terms of how gorgeous and stunning she is, Kacey always brings it with her tour and red carpet looks, and she’s equally as funny as she is beautiful.
The comments section did not disappoint, either:
“I love whatever is wrong with you.”
“This is an 8-time Grammy winner btw”
“The shot of you walking into Barnes and noble.”
“Alt vinyl cover: Kace-adillo
“It’s the perfect mix of iconic & insane for me.”
“Please be my friend so we can do this s*** together.”
“It’s called art.”
“Wasn’t exaggerating rolling down that lost highway huh.”
“This how I’m showing up to at least one tour date.”
“I’m actually wheezing.”
Her mom wins the comments section, though, saying:
“What have I always told you? Do not play in the street!”
Mama knows best… but the part at the end where Kacey plays dead is one of the best parts, too. I love whatever’s wrong, actually, right, with her…
