The man knows how to write a heartbreaker.

Today, Riley Green announced that a new song called “My Way” will be out everywhere this Friday, April 17th, just in time for his official acting debut on Marshals. He shared the announcement alongside the first trailer we’ve gotten to see of his character, Garrett, who is a former Navy SEAL teammate of Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes.

Garrett arrives at the ranch unexpectedly, hoping to lean on his friends Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) and Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) to help “put the demons of his past to rest.”

In the newly-released clip, we see him appear at Kayce’s ranch, saying he just wanted to see an old Team’s buddy, though not everyone is convinced he has pure intentions. You see a montage of what looks like a very troubled character, there’s also a shot of him sitting around a campfire with a guitar, which we saw in the first trailer, and I imagine we’ll probably get an acoustic performance of “My Way” too, since it looks like he recorded it just for the show:

Riley actually teased “My Way” on Instagram last year, which really shows off Riley’s natural ability to write sad country songs… my favorite kind. He finds himself wishing he could have an ex back in his arms if things would go “his way,” hence the title”:

“If I had it my way,
I would blink and we’d disappear somewhere, somehow
Have a little bit of red wine into coffee cups watching the stars come out
Have an Al Green record on,
Dance a little by the fireplace
We’d make our love then we’d just lay
If I had it my way

Call me up and say ‘I need you now and I can’t go another day’
I’d say ‘You’re all I ever think about, and I’d give anything to see your face’
You’d say, ‘I miss you’
I’d say, ‘I don’t know how much more I can take’
You’d say, ‘I’m on my way’
If I had it my way”

I think it has a great melody and is really catchy while still being pure country, and I’m really excited we’ll finally have the full studio cut of this one and I can’t wait to see how the incorporate it into the show, too.

This will be Riley’s first time acting in a role like this, as he’s been in his own music videos but this is obviously a completely different thing. Grimes previously said that Riley was great, especially considering it was his first time acting, saying that he “crushed it,” and based on the short teaser alone, I think he might be right. Riley previously talked about how this character is not an easy one to portray as his first acting gig, as he seems to be very troubled and complex, and I’m really excited to watch this episode.

Riley also shared a pretty lengthy, over one-minute long teaser of the song, and it sounds great. Check it out:
