It didn’t take long for Marshals to get an official order for Season 2.
We’re only two episodes into the Yellowstone spinoff’s first season (which will consist of 13-episodes), and CBS is already giving the green light for Season 2. Is that surprising? Not at all. In the past decade, there hasn’t been a franchise that’s more successful than Yellowstone.
Fans were clearly champing at the bit to see the story continue.
That’s actually proven by the numbers that the Kayce Dutton-focused spinoff pulled in. Variety reports that the March 1 premiere of the show boasted 20.6 million multi platform viewers (CBS and Paramount+ paired together) in the first week that the series premiere was available. CBS says it’s their most-watched broadcast original series premiere – without an NFL game playing right before it – since 2017.
In other words, if CBS executives weren’t already proponents of the loyal Yellowstone fanbase, they certainly are now, and they are going to do everything that they can to bring more of the Taylor Sheridan universe to their network. Amy Reisenbach, a CBS Entertainment prexy, had this to say about Marshals‘ strong start at the network:
“‘Marshals’ delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most powerful new series. The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the ‘Yellowstone’ world, the bold character driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes.”
The massive response to the show has led to the official order of a second season of Marshals.
That comes as no surprise (the Yellowstone brand just has that kind of carry), and it was actually expected after Deadline reported that Marshals would be going ahead with a Season 2. In early February, there were rumblings that the higher ups at CBS were already orchestrating the early stages of a renewal for Marshals:
“CBS brass are already high on ‘Marshals,’ commissioning a Season 2 writers room based on the episodes that have been completed, which is slated to open soon.”
Now, we know those rumblings from over a month ago were true. If a network is getting a writers room together to work on more episodes before the first episode of the series even airs, that’s usually a stellar indication that a sophomore season is on the way.
Guess it’s a good thing that they got a head start for Season 2 of Marshals, eh?
The spinoff sequel is currently airing in the coveted Sunday at 8 E.S.T time slot on CBS. New episodes of the show will air in that same time slot all the way through May – assuming no interruptions or mid-season breaks – until the season finale. And now, fans can take in the rest of Season 1 (which should eventually include Riley Green) knowing that Kayce Dutton’s story will continue even after all 13 episodes of the first season have aired.
Factor in all of the other Yellowstone and Taylor Sheridan shows that are set to air in 2026 and you’ve got yourself a lot of happy TV viewers out there… especially if they tend to love anything in or related to the Yellowstone universe.
