Nothing Is Real Anymore: Viral Photo Of William Shatner Eating Cereal In His Car Was Just Part Of A Super Bowl Ad

You’ve got to keep your head on a swivel around the Super Bowl.

People have learned to become a little skeptical this time of the year, because it’s become quite popular for strange things happening in pop culture leading to Super Bowl commercials. For example, we’ve seen a lot of reunions teased in recent years… only for said reunion to just be for the sake of a “Big Game” ad.

A couple of years ago, we saw David Schwimmer and Jennifer Anniston star in a small Friends reunion on behalf of Uber Eats. And last year, Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal got rumors of a When Harry Met Sally sequel swirling, only for it to be an ad for Hellman’s Mayonnaise.

Advertisers are constantly trying to fool the masses leading up to the Super Bowl, and now seems like as good a time as ever to plug in this quote from former President George W. Bush:

“There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”

I regret to inform you that I’ve been fooled again.

It usually takes a lot to pull one over on me, but this latest Super Bowl campaign got me – as it did many others. If you are chronically online like myself, you probably saw a viral photo of a 94-year-old William Shatner eating a bowl of cereal (milk and all) in his car.

First things first, the Star Trek actor looks great for 94-years-old. And he’s driving… which is impressive. Anyone with elderly loved ones in their life knows that, at some point, the keys have to be taken away. It’s a hard decision, but this photo showcased that Shatner is nowhere close to having his driving privileges revoked. In fact, I’d argue you have to be an expert driver to scoot around in your car while eating a bowl of cereal with milk oscillating around within.

Only a mad man would enter into their car with a bowl full of cereal and milk. There’s nothing wrong with eating something on the go, but you usually want to go with something handheld… cereal is a bold choice, especially once you get milk involved (you could omit the liquid cereal companion if you knew you were going to tackle the breakfast in a moving vehicle).

And people simply couldn’t believe that a nearly-century-old-man was just willingly taking on the challenge of eating a bowl of cereal in his car as he drove around.

Tragically, it looks like they were right in not believing it. Because earlier today, William Shatner shared a video on his social media feed that links him with Raisin Bran cereal. They are teaming up for a Super Bowl ad, and they are using a modified version of his name to promote how Raisin Bran is a good source of fiber:

“Will Shat here, and you can too! Together we’ll fix America’s fiber deficiency one bowl  at a time. Watch the full spot to find out how.”

We should have seen it coming.

It sucks when things are too good to be true. But then again, this was some brilliant work by Raisin Bran and William Shatner. They got people talking about the 94-year-old and cereal for half a month, and it all led to the unveiling of a Super Bowl ad that’s encouraging people to make their bowel movements more regular.

To end this story with a pun… good s***.
