New dashcam footage has been released from the arrest of now-former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore – but it’s the officer’s choice of music on his way to the scene that has people talking.
Moore was fired on December 10 after it was discovered that he had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a member of his staff. According to a statement released by the Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel:
“Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
Moore has been married to his wife, Kelli, for a decade, and the couple have three children together.
Things only got crazier after he was fired though, when Moore was arrested and charged with felony home invasion in the third degree, misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor breaking and entering.
According to prosecutors and publicly released 911 calls, Moore’s wife called the police after he was fired and reported that he was threatening to kill himself. He then allegedly went to the apartment of his mistress and “grabbed several butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors, and began to threaten his own life.”
The former coach has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Over the weekend, new body cam footage was released of the arrest, which was heavily redacted but showed officers driving to the call and arriving on scene. And as the officers pulled up to the apartment complex the song that was playing just happened to be… “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood.
Couldn’t have scripted something more ironic.
According to police reports and court transcripts, Moore’s mistress had attempted to cut off contact with him two days before he was fired, but the then-coach continued to contact her, leading the woman to file a report with the university.
After he was fired, Moore allegedly barged into her apartment and grabbed two butter knives out of the drawer and told the woman that she “ruined his life,” before turning the knives on himself after she called her attorney. Moore later told investigators that his relationship with the woman had lasted for two years.
Since being arraigned, the former coach has been released on bond and placed on GPS monitoring.
Moore was in court last week for a hearing after his attorney filed a motion to quash his arrest warrant, alleging that it was based on false statements while maintaining that her client is innocent of the charges he’s facing:
“Sherrone Moore is innocent of these charges. Today, on behalf of Mr. Moore, we filed a motion to quash the arrest warrant and dismiss the complaint.
This warrant was issued based on false and misleading statements presented as facts. We’re confident the truth will come out in court, under oath, where it belongs. Mr. Moore and his family respectfully ask for your privacy.”
Honestly, this whole thing could have been avoided if Moore had just heeded the warning from Carrie Underwood: Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats.
