Peyton Manning Makes Surprise Appearance At Jordan Davis’ Red Rocks Concert, Sings “Wagon Wheel”

Peyton Manning

After housing the likes of Eric Church on his epic, three-night run back in July, as well as the likes of Zach Bryan, Riley Green, Sierra Ferrell and The Red Clay Strays recently, Jordan Davis became the latest country act to grace the stage at Red Rocks Amphitheater during his debut at the venue last night.

Of course, Davis has made a name for himself in the genre with his pop-influenced hits such as “Singles You Up,” “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot,” “Take It From Me” and his latest release, “Bar None.” With that being said, however, he has backed them up with the occasional gem with tracks like the CMA Song of the Year-winning “Buy Dirt” featuring Luke Bryan, “Tucson Too Late” and “Next Thing You Know” all being rock-solid modern country songs.

As is the case with artists such as Davis, he brought his high-energy live show out to the iconic music venue last night, along with one major surprise: the appearance of NFL Hall of Famer and 5x MVP, Peyton Manning.

It should go without saying at this point that Manning has cemented himself as a crossover figure in the country music world at this point. Beyond playing for the Tennessee Volunteers before being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts, the 2x Super Bowl champion has a long history of appearances with some of the biggest names in the genre throughout the years.

From recording a version of “Whatever It Takes” with Kenny Chesney all the way back in 2003 and attempting to sing David Allan Coe’s “You Never Called Me By My Name” to making appearances at Morgan Wallen and Parker McCollum’s shows over the past two years, Manning has been collecting appearances seemingly yearly now.

After making his grand debut as co-host of the CMA Awards last year with Lainey Wilson and Luke Bryan (still not sure why we need three hosts, but I digress), he made his “return” to country music with a performance of “Wagon Wheel” in the midst of a medley of Matchbox Twenty’s “3 am,” Brooks & Dunn’s “Red Dirt Road,” Nickelback’s “Photograph,” and The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside.” And it’s safe to say the crowd absolutely loved it.

I think we can all agree at this point, especially after his butchering of “You Never Called Me By My Name,” that the Hall of Fame quarterback does not have an ounce of musical talent in him. With that being said, I really can’t help but love it. Beyond being one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and a great analyst (tune into the Manningcast during Monday Night Football for proof), he’s just one of those guys you can’t help but like.

You might not get the best rendition of “Wagon Wheel” here, but you’ll certainly get a fun one.
