Miranda Lambert Shows Up For Austin, Texas Drag Tribute To Her Music, Ignites Debate About Her Political Views

Miranda Lambert

It’s not every night there’s a drag tribute to Miranda Lambert, and it’s not every day she actually shows up.

This past Thursday, Rain on 4th, one of Austin, Texas’s, most beloved clubs, hosted a full-on drag tribute to Miranda Lambert, celebrating two decades of her music.

They advertised the night, fittingly calling it “Soakin’ the Night in Kerosene.”

I never thought I would hear drag and Miranda Lambert in the same sentence, but here we are. But one thing that the performers and fans didn’t expect? Miranda herself showed up.

Dressed casually and surrounded by her crew, including her husband Brendan McLaughlin and her openly gay brother Luke, she watched the show unfold-and at one point, grabbed the mic to tell everyone just how much it meant to her.

She told the crowd, while holding back tears:

“This is the best night ever. Thank you to the girls, the gays, the theys — for 20 years. Thank you, Luke-y-my brother. I’m gonna cry! Thank you all so much for all the support. I love y’all. This was, like, the best thing ever. I love you! Okay- shoot tequila! Have fun!”

@idanieltx Went to a Miranda Lambert drag tribute at @Rainon4th and the real @Miranda Lambert showed up?!? Yeehaw meets gay bar realness. She’s not just country royalty — she’s an LGBTQ+ ally and my friend’s badass sister. Love to see it! 🏳️‍🌈 #MirandaLambert #DragShow #Ally #RainOn4th #KeepAustinQueer ♬ NO SOUND – Sok Baraby

Only Miranda could turn a heartfelt thank you into a tequila toast in about 30 seconds flat.

Apparently, the tribute wasn’t a lookalike show, not a bunch of blonde wigs and cowboy boots. But instead-a handful of performers who took turns singing and performing her biggest hits. A crazy thing to do in front of Miranda herself.

And of course, in true Austin fashion, it was loose and loud, and for Miranda, a show of visible support for the LGBTQ community, as well as her brother Luke:

Since she is very prominent in the country community, and played on Kid Rock’s Rock The Country Festival, which featured a number of more conservative-leaning artists, lots of people were quick to run to the comments and have questions about her political views.

And one influencer even posted a TikTok expressing major disappointment over Miranda’s support of the LGBTQ+ community — while simultaneously accusing her (without real proof) of voting for Trump.

And of course, lots of people are agreeing with him in the comments:

“Allies don’t vote against you. It’s literally that simple and always will be. Ugh!”

“She was with Blake Shelton. Wouldn’t expect anything different”

“Noooo. Ugh this is gut wrenching news”

“Wait, I need to know who she voted for”

“I don’t trust Miranda either.”

“Nope”

“Oh no not Drag! It’s been done to death! Not a fan”

“I want to listen to country music again, but I want to support the ones that aren’t MAGA.”

Other commented that they were sad to see her supporting drag shows:

“Miranda supporting Men cosplaying as women?”

“Sure lowered my opinion of her!”

“Nope, not a fan of this! Sorry.”

“No!”

“Yikes”

“So long Miranda”

I mean, the comments seem pretty indicative of society right now… no matter what you do, people on both sides of the political aisle are gonna complain.

The truth? She’s just never been super outspoken about her political beliefs. Some cited what she “Likes” on Instagram as evidence of who she voted for. Fair? Maybe… maybe not. She’s one of the few who has stayed (mostly) out of the political mud, but she has been a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ community, as well as her brother Luke. She recorded “Y’all Means All” for the 6th Season of Queer Eye, and has regularly attended Pride parades with her brother… so this really should not be surprising to anybody.

She has been pretty quiet lately since dropping her Postcards From Texas album last December, but that’s about to change as she’s gearing up to hit the road in May with Morgan Wallen for one of the biggest tours of the year. Plus, she’ll take the stage at the 2025 ACM Awards on May 8 for their 60th anniversary.

But if Thursday night in Austin reminded us of anything, it’s that Miranda Lambert has never been afraid to show up, celebrate whoever and whatever the hell she wants to, and raise a tequila glass… and regardless of who she voted for, that hasn’t changed.
