NBC Rep Says Morgan Wallen Is Welcome Back To ‘Saturday Night Live’ Despite Awkward Exit Drama

No bad blood.

Even if NBC says that Morgan Wallen is welcome back to Saturday Night Live, after the backlash he’s gotten from this most recent appearance, I wouldn’t blame him if he never returned to the late-night sketch show.

Over the weekend, the country music superstar found himself at the center of headlines after his awkward exit at the end of the show after serving as this weekend’s musical guests. At the show’s conclusion, the host and musical guests do a send-off, thanking everyone for tuning in, then chat with other castmates and guests as the credits roll.

But Wallen quickly walked off the stage after the country music singer gave his pleasantries to host Mikey Madison.

After leaving the premises, Wallen posted a picture of a private plane to his Instagram story, noting he was ready to get back to “God’s country.” While Wallen might have just been posting it as a sign that it was a long day leading up to the live airing of SNL, the quick exit from the stage, followed by the post, gave fans the impression that he was ready to flee the scene.

“Get Me Back To God’s Country.”

However, it was quickly cleared up that it was a misunderstanding. A source close to Wallen told TMZ that Morgan Wallen was just walking off the way they practiced in rehearsals, and he was not aware he needed to stay and chat with other cast members.

“We’re told he entered and exited the studio the same way he did Saturday night during rehearsal and camera blocking all week leading up to the live show… so he routinely headed that way when he thought it was time to go.”

While that cleared up that it was not a malicious move on Wallen’s part, some fans in the audience said that Executive Producer Lorne Michaels “snubbed” Wallen by walking up to hug host Mikey Madison and turning his back on Morgan when he walked up.

A TikTok user who reported on what they saw called it “an obvious and purposeful move,” which was thought to upset Wallen and led him to leave.

“I was there last night! Lorne snubbed him. Mikey walked to the stage at the end and Lorne hugged her, then when Morgan came towards the stage Lorne turned his back and walked away. It was an obvious and purposeful move.

Also, the cast couldn’t be further back on the stage if they tried. Apparently it’s a thing they do when they don’t like the guest. I thought Morgan did an amazing job and hate there is such a riff about him being there. Great show though! Super funny skits!”

Another fan who claims they were there says that after leaving the camera frame, Morgan walked out to the audience to meet his fans, a “sick child” who was there to see him:

“We were there. He came out to the audience to meet his fans and to meet a small child who is sick. And he also signed a poster and took pictures with everyone. I’m not a fan of his music but he treated…”

But according to an NBC source, there is no bad blood between the show and Wallen.

TMZ reported that an NBC rep told the outlet there is no bad blood between the “I’m The Problem” singer and the show. They said the walk-off was just an awkward moment, and there was no ill will with the action. The source also told TMZ that Wallen was not offended by any jokes said during the show and was on set leading up to the show, knowing what would be said.

“(Wallen) had been on the ‘SNL’ set since Thursday and he knew all the jokes that were in the show. There was no tension.”

The insiders also added that:

“We’re told everyone was friendly and having a good time. And Morgan even left the same way he came in for rehearsals, thinking that was the move.”

Regardless of what transpired on set, I don’t blame Wallen if he never returns to the set…
