Kylie Kelce’s pops was not a fan of hearing his college student was dating an NFL player.
Jason and Kylie Kelce are America’s sweethearts. The famed NFL couple captured the hearts of America as Kylie lets Jason be fully himself, and this partnership with Kylie exemplifies true love as they raise their (soon-to-be) four little girls.
Their love story started over Tinder when Kylie, a college student at the time, thought she was getting catfished when she found out Jason was an Eagle to meeting him for the first time at a dive bar where Jason was blackout after the Philadelphia Eagles’ Christmas party. The couple has shared many funny moments about their relationship with the public through New Heights and social media, which is part of the reason the public loves them so much.
They are the definition of authentic.
Kylie recently appeared on the hit podcast Call Her Daddy, where she opened up even more about the early days of their relationship.
Kylie shared with host Alex Cooper that she kept it under wraps when she first started dating Jason. Not because she didn’t want people to know that she had a man who treated her well but because of the negative connotation that can sometimes be associated with dating a professional athlete. This is part of the reason Kylie hates the term WAG. She feels it implies that you are with a professional athlete for their money and that you have nothing going for yourself outside of the relationship.
She also didn’t want her friends to think she was dating a jock because Jason was far from that. Kylie shared that he was in a competitive jazz band in high school, which “speaks to her.” So yeah, both Kylie and Jason are a little nerdy, and we love them for that.
When talking about sharing with her family and friends that she was dating Jason, she was most concerned about telling her dad. And while, of course, any daughter fears telling their father about their new boyfriend because they are protective over their little girls, Kylie was afraid to tell her dad because he’s a massive Eagles fan.
One day, Kylie was home and heard her sister and dad talking to their neighbors about their favorite players. Jason happened to be their neighbor’s favorite player. Kylie misheard the conversation, thinking that her sister was outing her business, so she ran downstairs freaking out. But in the end, it just meant Kylie finally had to fess up to who she was dating.
“She tried to rescue me like, hey, that’s not the direction that conversation is going. My dad was like, ‘Why are you so bothered by that?’ And so then we had a coming to Jesus moment. Because my sister was like, ‘She…she…she knows him.’
My dad was appalled. My dad was not happy. He was actually very disturbed. Very disturbed. He was like, ‘Do not ruin this for me.'”
Thankfully for Kylie’s dad, nothing was ruined for him, and there was no stain on the Eagles. It would have been really tough to either change your NFL alliance or cheer for your favorite team; knowing a player shattered your father’s heart.
Kylie sounds like she’s got one helluva dad, though, to be that protective over his little girl. But like most fathers, they want them to be with someone who treats them better than their ol’ dad could.
Thank goodness Kylie’s dad now has one cool son-in-law.
