IT’S SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!
Am I a little upset that we aren’t all waking up the morning after Super Bowl Saturday? You bet I am. Any chance I get, I fight for the right to party to have the Super Bowl moved to Saturday, or for the Monday after the Super Bowl to be a national holiday? Why?
Everyone hates the Monday after the Super Bowl.
Studies conducted in the past couple of years estimate that employers lose between $4 billion and $6 billion dollars in productivity because of the dreaded “Super Bowl Hangover.” People often spend all day leading up to the game and all night while the Super Bowl is on consuming staggering amounts of calories and deleting beers and other various alcoholic beverages… and then they are just supposed to go to work the next day?
Most employees either mail it in on that day, or just don’t show up at all.
And I’ll tell you right now, all of those post-Super-Bowl feelings will only be made worse if the Kansas City Chiefs three-peat as Super Bowl champions. Patrick Mahomes and company have managed to do the unthinkable… and no I’m not talking about their incredible run of three Super Bowls wins since 2020. I’m alluding to the fact that they’ve made much of America cheer for the Philadelphia Eagles.
That’s because – regardless of what the NFL or the referees say – there’s a common belief shared amongst NFL fans that Kansas City receives some favoritism. If you watched one of their games recently, you’ve probably even noticed that the Chiefs seemingly get whatever call they need at just the right time.
Translation: Chiefs fatigue has set in and instead of giving them credit, we are all looking to blame their greatness on something else.
But to be honest with you, I’m here for it. I love seeing all of the non-Kansas-City fans band together and create a conspiracy that the refs are basically helping the Chiefs win games. Why would they do that? One could draw it up as dynasties being good for the sport, or the fact that they’ve seen record viewership ever since Taylor Swift started dating Travis Kelce and attending their games.
If you were to ask Philly fans what they think about Kansas City, they’d likely tell you there’s no doubt the referees are helping out the Chiefs (just go back and watch how their previous Super Bowl matchup in 2023 went). And if you need proof that’s how Philadelphia sports fans feel, look no further than this display that was put up at a Dick’s Sporting Goods in Philly:

In case you can’t see it, the label for that rack of referee shirts reads “Kansas City Jerseys.”
First off, that’s hilarious. Secondly, I can’t help but agree with the sentiment of that display… and I wish I had some time before my Super Bowl watch party to go grab a ref shirt like the one pictured above and say that I’m dressed as the Kansas City Chief’s best player.
