Cody Johnson’s love songs are hard at work.
Over the weekend, Cody Johnson played his first sold-out stadium show in Arlington, Texas, at Globe Life Field. While Johnson has played for some massive crowds, like Rodeo Houston, headlined festivals, and made many award show appearances in stadiums, this is his first solo show that drew a sold-out stadium crowd.
Johnson had Jon Pardi open the show for him, which led to a night filled with boot-stompin’ good country music.

During the portion of Johnson’s setlist, where he slows things down and sings a few of his love ballads, a man in the crowd has a massive surprise for his lady. While his girlfriend was using the restroom, he told the folks around him that he planned on popping the question during one of Johnson’s moving love songs, “The Painter.”
“When the guy in front of you tells everyone he is proposing while his girlfriend was in the bathroom….you just video it all! So fun!”
A social media user who captured the special moment wrote.
When the melody for “The Painter” began, he spun his girlfriend around like he needed to show her something, and when she was facing the other way, he got down on one knee. The woman had no idea what was happening as she was in no rush to turn back around, so her soon-to-be fiancé began tapping on her to get her attention again. Once she notices that her man is on one knee, he points toward the stage, beckoning her to pay attention to the song (which also has one thinking this tune might be “their song”).
She, of course, says yes, and the man stands up and embraces his fiancée. Afterward, the two sway and enjoy the rest of this tender love song. While plenty of CoJo love songs one could pop the question to, this one takes the cake as the perfect proposal song. With the lyrics detailing how the woman he’s in love with brings color into his life and makes him whole, you can’t help but tear up hearing those words as this couple chooses to take their relationship to the next level.
