“Am I Supposed To Rub Your Shoulders?” – Brooks & Dunn Didn’t Know What To Do While Walking Out With Morgan Wallen In Kansas City

Morgan Wallen’s pre-show walk out has become quite the cultural phenomenon recently.

With star-studded guests joining him in each city, Morgan Wallen and an entourage make their way through backstage like he’s an MMA fighter before parting ways when it is his time to walk onto the stage. While many of the artists seem to be cued into how the walk out goes down, for artists or famous folks featured during the walk out who are not privy to how big of a deal it is, their perspective on the experience is much different than those well versed in how it’s an honor to walk out with Wallen.

Brooks & Dunn sat down with Theo Von for the most recent episode of This Past Weekend, and the group talked about their walk out experiences. Brooks & Dunn made their appearance with Wallen in Kansas City after Von walked out with the “Lies Lies Lies” singer in Nashville earlier in the summer.

After Von asked the two about their experience, Brooks & Dunn laughed, noting that it is quite a production. Kix admits neither he nor Ronnie knew walking out with Wallen was such a big deal.

“I really didn’t. They were trying to explain to me what was going on, and like, ‘Morgan will look back, and then y’all will come down the hallway, and then y’all are gonna walk out together to his stage. You know, we are going to film it; it’s a big deal.’ I’m like, ‘Okay?'”

Ronnie Dunn then chimes in:

“We keep up with it to the extent that we know how he’s selling out stadiums everywhere, and it’s like get out of the way, and he’s crashing websites and Live Nation…

I had done a walk on with him at Bridgestone when he played here a few years ago.”

Von then agrees with them to the point that you don’t really know what is going on. It’s not like you practiced walking out with Morgan Wallen before, so everyone follows Wallen’s lead, hoping he helps guide them without making them look dumb.

Ronnie Dunn then shared a few thoughts that ran through his head, unsure if he was doing the right thing.

“Yeah, you’re right. You’re just kind of thrown into the fray there. Like, am I supposed to walk here and be cool? Am I supposed to be rubbing your shoulders?”

The group then starts laughing about how some guests get a little handsy while walking out, patting Wallen on the back, or rubbing his shoulders. Kix Brooks jokes that if it continues like that, the next thing fans know, the walk outs will turn into Wallen wrestling his crew before taking the stage.

You know… That is kind of on-brand for Wallen, so never say never.

Hearing about the famed walk out from the guests’ perspectives was much more comical than I thought. Based on how some guests play into Wallen’s gestures, one would think they run everyone through it, but that sounds quite the opposite of how it goes down every night.

“Just wing it, go with the flow.”

Is how Ronnie Dunn described the experience in his final words of the segment.

I’d say Brooks & Dunn did a stellar job with their appearance. Even if they didn’t know what the heck they were doing, they are Brooks & Dunn, and no one is looking at them like that. Folks were probably trying to pick their jaw off the floor once they realized they were in the building.

@bama_kidd It’ll be cool when he starts wrestling😂😂 #theovon #thispastweekend #podcast #brooksanddunn #morganwallen #goofy ♬ original sound – Bama Kidd
