Oakland A’s Drop Coliseum Tribute Video Ahead Of Move To Triple-A Ballpark, & OF COURSE They Turned The Comments Off

No offense to the fine Oakland Athletics social team who put this together and tried to give their fans something to hold onto ahead of Thursday’s last-ever A’s game at Oakland Coliseum, but the fact that replies are restricted to only those who the A’s follow tells you all you need to know.

The A’s are a cheapskate organization because they’re run by a cheapskate owner in John Fisher, whose spin on the team moving to a Triple-A stadium in Sacramento is that it’ll be the “most intimate park in all of baseball.”

All the Billy Beane Moneyball magic in the world couldn’t make Oakland a contender for more than a couple seasons at a time. Although the A’s will avoid their third straight 100-loss campaign in 2024, they’re still heading into Thursday’s tilt with the Texas Rangers at a cool 22 games below .500. Their payroll is less than $63 million, trailing the Pirates by about $22 million. How about that? About a million bucks to match each game south of .500 that they are.

At least A’s fans aren’t being stopped from taking some Coliseum souvenirs — from the practical (sampling of dirt) to the less practical (ripping seats out of the stadium to somehow haul home):

John Fisher ripped Oakland’s hearts out, so at least the longtime A’s supporters can rip a seat out of a failing stadium that failed myriad rounds of funding and failed to adhere to modern upkeep standards.

We do have a quote tweet that summarizes the state of Oakland sports, and how the city has endured enough heartbreak for multiple lifetimes as far as watching their teams flee to greener pastures, superior markets, and locales where they’re actually willing to invest in stadium renovation/brand-new construction.

Here’s a scene from today as the fine folks who’ll see the official last of the A’s at the Coliseum assemble for their spot in witnessing a dubious part of MLB and North American sports history.

The Raiders defected to Las Vegas, and in several years’ time, so will the A’s. Until then, they’re set to not have a city to their name even as they play in Sactown, and I don’t anticipate much in the way of high-profile player acquisitions in that span. It’s gonna be a wild atmosphere to see superstars roll into town to take on the A’s at such a modest venue.

Anyway, here’s a reminder of what lies ahead for the A’s — and just how much of a saboteur John Fisher is to baseball in Oakland.
