Videos of fighting kangaroos are shocking to most viewers throughout the world. But in Australia? That’s just regularly scheduled “Down Under” programming.
Australia is a crazy place. There’s just no other way to describe it. I’ve personally never been, and to be honest with you, all of the wild footage I’ve seen from the continent (in addition to the 100-plus poisonous snakes there) doesn’t make me want to go anytime soon.
I feel like one of the redeeming parts of living in Australia would be interacting with kangaroos. To preface, I know that roos aren’t exactly harmless. There have been plenty of videos come to my attention of the hopping-mad animals putting the hurt on people. On the other hand though, I’d argue that there’s not a more unique and entertaining creature on the planet, and that’s why I wouldn’t mind seeing one out in the wild from time to time.
And guess what? It’s very common to see a kangaroo in Australia, due to them outnumbering the people that call the island continent home. It’s estimated that over 50 million roos live in the land down under, which makes me think they would have strength in numbers if they really ever wanted to assert their dominance.
The good news for Australians is that the long-tailed mammals are usually too busy fighting one another to worry about human beings. These roos were boxing in the front yard of a home in Australia, and you know what my take away from that is? FREE ENTERTAINMENT. You’ve usually got to pay to see something like this, and these kangaroos decided to put on a show (while taking over the front yard) free of charge.
To be honest, I’m jealous that kangaroos don’t roam free in the United States. I’d love to see some wild animals throwing hands on my property. I’ve never seen two raccoons or a pair of possums going multiple rounds, which is a real shame. Our country’s non-bothersome wild animals should take notes on this front yard kangaroo throw down.
