We’ve heard the rumors for awhile and now it’s all but confirmed.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, a new Game Of Thrones spinoff centered around the conquests of Aegon Targaryen is in the works.
The first hints that this may be in the works came back in April of last year but there were few details on the project until now.
HBO is enlisting Mattson Tomlin to write the series and if that name sounds familiar it’s for good reason. Despite being just 33 years old, the Romanian filmmaker has quite the resume, penning the script for The Batman Part II which is set to be released in October 2025 as well as Terminator: The Anime Series, Mother/Android, and the Jamie Foxx lead Netflix series Project Power.
This new spinoff will be a direct prequel to the House Of The Dragon, the only other spinoff that has actually been released, focused on Aegon Targaryen and his sister wives Rhaenys and Visenya.
Admittedly, I think picking Tomlin to write the series is interesting. Most of his work has been in the Superhero/Sci-Fi realm so we’ll have to wait and see if he’ll be able to be as effective in the Fantasy world, but hey, I’m certainly no expert on his catalogue or script writing.
While I thought fans would be chomping at the bit for anything GOT given is pretty much ran pop culture from 2011 to 2019, reactions have truly seemed to be split with a much of the ire coming from the fact that the Targaryen’s are the only house getting spinoffs and the belief that HBO will drag the show out to try and pull as much money from it as possible.

idk how to feel about this. I’ve always wanted to see a series about aegon’s conquest but I’m pretty sure they’re gonna ruin the storylines and characters https://t.co/2UYhTeQSrq

Yeah, lots of opinions on both sides of the spectrum…
Personally, I don’t know how to feel. Will I probably watch it? Yeah, most likely. But given how GOT ended, I also get that feeling that they’ll just churn something out to cash in on the brand name.
But then again, it’s never a bad night when I get to turn on a show about war and dragons, so how awful can it really be? Only time will tell.
