It’s no secret that Jeremy Renner has been going through it this month.
On New Year’s Day, the Mayor of Kingstown actor suffered a horrific snowplow accident while at his Lake Tahoe, Nevada home.
At the time, we only knew that the 6.5-ton snowplow had run over one of his legs, and that a neighbor who was also a doctor helped minimize the bleeding until he had to get airlifted to the hospital.
However, the injuries were apparently much more significant than we could’ve imagined, as he allegedly nearly died on the scene, and his whole chest had to practically be reconstructed.
He was allegedly helping out his nephew when the brakes failed on the snowplow and the massive machine started sliding towards his nephew. Renner got out and attempted to divert the 14,000 pound machine when he got caught under it and crushed.
It could take him two years to fully recover from the incident.
But, luckily enough, Renner appears to be in as good of spirits as you can be for a situation like this, as he’s been sharing Instagram updates like:
“Thank you all for your kind words. I’m too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”
Although it was a near tragedy, it appears that Renner can look forward to his road to recovery now.
With that being said, comedian Jay Leno thought it was a safe enough time to crack a harmless joke towards the famed actor.
He said in a recent tweet:
“I was riding my motorcycle up in Lake Tahoe and I came around the corner and bam, I crashed into Jeremy Renner’s snowplow.”

Of course, Leno has been involved in some serious accidents lately himself, as he was involved in a fire, and also a pretty brutal motorcycle accident, so he was probably just trying to make light of a tough situation for both himself and Renner in the best way he knows how…
Like, harmless comedy.
But nah, the anti-comedy Twitter world came back at him full force, with responses like:
Not funny. Renner broke 30 bones in the process of saving his nephew’s life. Respect to the guy. Pure guts.

How is that funny.

I feel like I don’t get the joke. It seems alarmingly gross at first glance. Maybe someone can shine a light. Thanks in advance. [poet, didn’t know it] https://t.co/DzGAWwxk7w

No. Just, no. I know you were also involved in an accident a few months ago, but this tweet is terrible. https://t.co/s2Ywc638sj
