Has Taylor lost her touch now that she’s in a healthy relationship?
Taylor Swift just dropped her latest project, a deluxe version of her latest album The Life of A Showgirl featuring four brand new songs. And as always, Swifties couldn’t hit the play button fast enough when the songs dropped at midnight.
But it seems like they weren’t over the moon with what they heard…
One of the songs especially seems to be getting a lot of attention. “Cleveland!” is, obviously, a nod to her now-husband Travis Kelce’s hometown in Ohio, addressing her critics while professing her love for the Kansas City Chiefs tight end:
“She’s not as hot as she was, but she was only a four
She was never a girls’ girl, she was just a—
And with all of that money, why’s she dressed like trash?
When she smiles, it’s annoying, and have you seen her
Stumbling clumsily?
Would you even call that dancing?
I can see what you mean
And now I guess there’s
Something we all can agree on
But my baby likes what he likes, oh-woah, oh-oh
He already took me to Cleveland
And showed me The Heights, so hate all you like

Yikes…
Well apparently even Swifties aren’t exactly digging the song, with many wondering if she’s lost her fastball now that she’s married and settled down:
Yeah, it’s bad.
Of course there are some who like it, and point out that the whole aim of the song is to call out haters who are mad that she’s happy in her relationship now. But the criticism also comes after many Swifties were already let down by the original The Life of a Showgirl album, arguing that it doesn’t feature the in-depth, emotional songwriting that her fans have come to expect. (I mean, “happy” is an emotion so maybe they just want her singing about how much she hates men all the time).
But one fan summed up the frustrations with the song on Reddit:
“I don’t know how people aren’t embarrassed by this song.. like I think we need to be honest with ourselves and not just accept every single thing she releases as good work because you think it makes you a bad Swiftie if you don’t automatically praise everything she does.
It just feels like she’s trying to clap back once again “to the haters” and flaunting that she’s married.. it’s just very male centered and she’s self deprecating too much. So High School was great because she was writing about her feelings and finding new love and the FEELINGS she had.. this sounds like a never ending circle where we have to hear about 20 Travis Kelce references that have already been made (Arrowhead, New Heights etc.) and it’s just kind of removing the depth of her songwriting for a bright flashy tune about how she’s uncool and hated and now she’s getting married to someone who likes her.. I’m over this concept and commitment to minimizing herself and trying to prove how little she cares about the public perception of her and her relationship, yet she continues to write 3 minute long responses to the haters.”
I feel like this one’s going to divide the fan base for a while…but honestly, as a non-Swiftie, it doesn’t sound much different to me than the rest of her stuff.
