It’s hard to imagine an artist having a better year than Morgan Wallen had in 2025. Riding the highs of his fourth studio album, I’m The Problem, the Tennessee native broke all sorts of records. In addition to dethroning Garth Brooks and becoming the highest-selling country artist of all time (4th all-genre), Wallen also scored the most-listened-to album on Apple Music globally, the #1 most-listened-to album in the U.S. on Spotify and became the second male country artist in history to be named Billboard’s Top Artist of the Year.
2026 has been yet another huge year for the “Whiskey Glasses” singer as he just wrapped up his massive Still The Problem Tour back in August with the final of 23 total stadium shows this summer in 12 cities, including the likes of Bryant-Denny Stadium, Soldier Field, U.S. Bank Stadium, Allegiant Stadium, Michigan Stadium, University of Clemson’s Memorial Stadium and Lincoln Financial Field.
Couple that with the debut of his very own radio station on SiriusXM back in April, breaking the internet by teaming up with the red-hot Ella Langley on “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” which is currently sitting inside the Top 20 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, and the release of his first solo song of the year, “Been By Now,” back in July, and you have yourself another massively successful stretch despite not releasing a ton of new music.
Obviously, Wallen has been teasing new music for quite a while at this point. Even before the release of “Been By Now,” he’d confirm that he’s sitting on “seven or eight” singles, and that he’s ready to start dropping “little sneak peeks” all the way back in April. And this week, he sent fans into a frenzy by posting yet another cryptic teaser.
On Tuesday morning, the “Chasin’ You” singer took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, posting a picture of some animated artwork that shows the side of a well-worn pool, a ladder and two pool chairs near the edge, which his fan club account also shared.
It had the same art style that the popular video game franchise Grand Theft Auto uses, and with GTA 6 coming out in November, fans began speculating that he was either receiving his own radio station in the game or dropping a song for its soundtrack. Of course, this was due to the fact that other artists such as Travis Scott, Future, Metro Boomin and more posted similar teasers.
Wasting zero time, this morning, Wallen would confirm that he’s a part of the GTA 6 sound track and officially released his second single of the year, “Last Thing You Need.”
Unsurprisingly, especially given the fact that it’s included on a rap-heavy soundtrack like Grand Theft Auto, “Last Thing You Need” sees Wallen continue to lean heavily into his pop and R&B influences. While I’d usually harp on the Tennessee native for continuing to stray further and further from country on each release, in the context of GTA 6, it undoubtedly works for the project.
While I personally wouldn’t want it fired up in any honky tonk or bonfire, there’s absolutely no denying the track will sound great while driving down the city streets of Vice City at night in the video game, with Wallen reminiscing about having one last chance with his lover in the background.
“Last Thing You Need” will be one of 34 tracks on Grand Theft Auto 6’s official soundtrack, which will drop in its full form when the game releases on November 19th.
