As of right now, country music superstar Garth Brooks is set to play four shows in Denver, Colorado this weekend. But thanks to a mysterious booking at a small bar outside of Denver, country fans think Brooks might actually have a fifth show.
Brooks is currently out on the road for the first time in a long time for his Blame It All On My Roots Tour. The “Friends In Low Places” singer has been announcing his concert dates one city at a time, and the next city on his list is the Mile High City.
Fans have flocked to his shows thus far, and many are citing his tour date rollout as a successful way to beat “Blue Dot Fever.” With every stop along the tour, Garth and his team has had to add additional shows to meet demand. There’s a total of four scheduled right now at Ball Arena (Friday through Sunday), and fans of Brooks also think he’s playing a small, intimate show while he’s in town.
A smaller bar and music venue called The Grizzly Rose is really hyping up a performance they have coming up on Thursday, September 3. But to be clear… Garth Brooks isn’t on the bill officially. One of his alter egos is (and no, it’s not Chris Gaines). The Grizzly Rose is sharing that an artist named “Yukon Jack” is playing on Thursday, and they are calling it a can’t miss event:
“Y’all really don’t want to miss Yukon Jack performing this Thursday! Ladies night specials do not apply for this event. No one will be permitted to line up on Grizzly Rose property prior to 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 3.”
So why do people think Yukon Jack is actually Garth Brooks?
For one, the show being scheduled on Thursday – the day before Garth plays three straight days in Denver – lines up, and the Grizzly Rose doesn’t have shows on Thursday. They also won’t sell any tickets in advance, you have to get them at the door and can’t lineup before 4pm… very odd.
But there’s more convincing evidence. You might be interested to know that the country star’s hometown is Yukon, Oklahoma. And Thursday’s show wouldn’t be the first time Garth played under the alias “Yukon Jack.” Back in 1993, Brooks announced a small, pop-up show at a small bar in Tulsa. The name he used for the performance? That’d be Yukon Jack.
Then when you see what Brooks told 9News last month, it feels fairly obvious that the concert at the Grizzly Rose on Thursday will be put on by the one and only Garth Brooks. He said he has a lot of ties to the state of Colorado, and said he’d play the Grizzly Rose (which he actually mentioned in his song “The Old Stuff”) tomorrow, if he could:
“You can go to the Grizzly Rose. I mean, I got to tell you truthfully, I’d play that place tomorrow. I love that place, great memories, the state fair in Pueblo, fabulous memories. Then we get to come and play the old McNichols Arena, I think was the next step up for us.
And then, of course, getting to play Mile High. Come on, man. Growing up as a kid and watching that and seeing all the historic events that happened there, get to be a part of that.”
Yeah… I think the cat is out of the bag on this one. Garth Brooks is Yukon Jack.
Is it the alter ego of Garth’s we wanted to see return? Not exactly (a Chris Gaines revival would do monster numbers… but it’ll never happen). But it’s still really cool to see one of the biggest country stars on the planet drive up some excitement through a secret show at a bar and venue that clearly means a lot to him.
