Top 5 Spinning Reels Of 2026… So Far

We’re officially halfway through the year.

Of course we all have our favorite rod and reed combos that we’ve been using all year, but with ICAST 2026 rapidly approaching, we’re staring down the barrel of countless new bass reels hitting the market over the next half-year. It’s easy to get overwhelmed trying to find “the one.” And as I said in my Top Baitcaster Reels of 2026 blog last week, you can read all the specs and the customer reviews, pro opinions are great but come with the potential for sponsor bias… but until you actually hold a reel and fish with it, you just don’t know how it’s going to feel in your hand.

That’s where I come in. I am obsessed with bass gear. I buy and/or try tons of new rods, reels, and tackle every single year. No sponsors and no obligations to any brands, just me and the gear on the water. As always, every single product I recommend—including the ones I link to through the Tackle Warehouse affiliate program—is gear I’ve actively fished with. I’ve put over 150 hours on the water already this year, and I’ve rotated through roughly 25 different spinning combos across all price ranges and brands, and a few of my clear-cut favorites have finally shown themselves.

Here is my definitive list of the absolute best bass fishing spinning reels I’ve been using this year… so far.

1. Abu Garcia Revo Rocket

With a lightning fast 7.6:1 gear ratio, this aptly-named Revo Rocket can move some line. Sometimes it’s almost a little too fast if you’re trying to slow roll a swimbait, but if you’re fishing deep drop shots and want to pick up line quickly, or skipping wacky rigs under docks and want to get fish out in a hurry before they get tangled up, it’s an absolute game changer. When you’re trying to be as efficient as possible, and/or get them in the boat quickly, it really helps. I’ve also experimented with fishing the Coike or urchin-style bait on a spinning setup, and since hookup ratios are yet to be perfected, it seems to help me get them in before they shake free.

I keep a few of them rigged up at all times.

2. Abu Garcia Zenon X

I think this has become my favorite spinning reel as of late. Incredibly lightweight, but extremely durable, buttery smooth drag system, it has everything you’re looking for in a great spinning reel. I have a few paired up with my Fenwick World Class rods, and it’s just a nasty, nasty combo. It’s definitely not cheap, but it’s also a high quality piece of machinery that can compete with reels at twice the price. It also comes with a drop shot weight holder on it, which you don’t realize how incredible that is until you try it.

3. Daiwa Tatula MQ LTE

I’m a huge fan of the Tatula family. Daiwa Tatula rods, Tatula reels… from the budget friendly XT, all the way up to the Elite AGS, they have something for every level that simply gets the job done. But the Daiwa Tatula MQ LTE is absolutely stellar at the price point. Featuring their signature AirDrive technology, it’s light, durable, smooth, it’s a workhorse reel that will outperform others at a similar price.

4. Shimano Nasci FD

I love the Shimano Nasci, and at about $125 bucks, it’s super affordable… fairly close to a budget reel in the grand scheme of things. The Shimano quality we all know and love, but at a price that certainly won’t break the bank. It makes a regular appearance on a number of my spinning rods.

5. Shimano Vanford

The staple… it’s just tough to beat a Shimano Vanford in the sub-$300 category. Shimano makes spinning reels that will run you up near a thousand dollars, 500 bucks and everywhere in between, but the Vanford is the epitome of quality at a fair price. Precision quality, enhanced sensitivity, super smooth, it’s a proven winner that I usually have a couple of at all times.

And I know I mentioned pro endorsements, but Jacob Wheeler, who has won Major League Fishing’s Bass Pro Tour Angler of the Year 4 times in the past 7 years, never finishing worse than 4th in the years he didn’t win, used it pretty regularly over the past few seasons… as do a number of other pros. If that isn’t an endorsement, I don’t know what it.
