Big Bull Moose Finds Itself In High Speed Police Chase In New Hampshire

Moose in New Hampshire

Well… this isn’t something you see everyday.

Car chases have always fascinated the human mind. There’s just something about an automobile chasing something at high speed that gets the brain engaged. That’s why a lot of the more popular action film franchises out there – like Mission: Impossible and The Bourne Identity – always work in some sort of high-speed chase down.

It’s pure entertainment, and when the police get involved, that just takes things up a notch. That’s especially true when the police are chasing… a towering, wild moose.

As crazy as that sounds, that’s exactly what played out last year in Keene, New Hampshire. The small, quiet town up in the northeast United States went viral a handful of months back thanks to a large moose that led two police cruisers on a thrilling chase through the city’s downtown area.

In case you didn’t know, moose are the largest of all deer that are in the deer family, and their height and weight might surprise you. Males are typically bigger than females, though both genders are generally ginormous (that’s the scientific term for describing moose size). On average, a bull moose usually stands at 6 feet tall at their shoulders, and can even weigh up to 1,400 pounds.

You’ll be able to see that size on display in this video below… the police car only comes up to the animal’s shoulders. And despite their size and weight, they can still move rather quickly.

According to reports, the moose was hanging around in the downtown and residential area and needed to be removed (for the safety of all those in the area). So the Keene Police Department, along with the Fish and Wildlife Department, bravely responded to the call. Authorities took a couple of cruisers down to drive out the moose, and it ended up working out exceptionally well.

Resident Colby Bezanson heard about all of the commotion, and stood out by the street to capture this video of the big ol’ moose trotting down the road and away from the police car in pursuit.

To be clear, the authorities weren’t trying to book this moose. They were just trying to do a little “moose control” and get him out and away from the downtown area. And it all made for quite the funny visual. After all, you don’t see a moose running at full speed away from the cops (with their sirens on) all that often.

The Keene Police Department confirmed after the chase that the moose was safely relocated from the neighborhood. Many residents in the area joked that the moose fleeing from the police is New Hampshire’s version of a high speed chase. Like I said before, Keene tends to be a quiet town up in the northeast. But for one day last October, it was the site of a hilarious and wild police chase.

As you can see in the video below:

“Police were seen chasing a moose through Keene, New Hampshire, over the weekend. Officers said they used lights and sirens to safely guide it out of residential areas.”
