“I’m Chopped Liver Around My House” – Cody Johnson Jokes About His New Son Still Being A Mama’s Boy

One day Cody Johnson’s son will become a daddy’s boy, but at six months old, he’s still infatuated with his mom.

Last summer, at the ACM Awards, Cody Johnson’s bride, Brandi, debuted her baby bump, sharing with the world that their family of four would be growing to a family of five. The Johnson family was thrilled to share with the world that they were expecting their first son and that their two daughters, Carla and Cori, would be promoted to big sisters.

The couple welcomed Jaycee Daniel Johnson into the world in October and honored their family’s ranch by naming their son after the land Johnson hopes to pass down to Jaycee one day. Cody and Brandi Johnson came up with the name Jaycee after many folks mispronounced their ranch’s brand, J Bar C Ranch, as JC, so they ran with it and came up with an excellent name for their buckaroo from the mispronunciation.

Shortly after little man made his appearance in the world, Johnson shared with Katie & Company’s Katie Neal that, although he felt he was out of practice with the newborn phase, he was already noticing some differences between him and his girls in this phase. Johnson shared that

“He’s fun, though, man. He smiles a lot. He giggles. I’ve got him to where—it’s really different because with my girls, it was always they were very snuggly with dad and ‘Oh, daddy’s beautiful little girl.’ And him, like the rougher I am with him the more he laughs. Like I can grab him by the feet and scare him, and he giggles and smiles. Then he gets with mom and is a little tiny baby, awe.”

While Johnson can rough-house with Jaycee, and he loves that his little boy is already showing some grit, that does not mean that he’s a full-on daddy’s boy. At six months old, Johnson shared that Jaycee is still obsessed with his mother, and he’s left as chopped liver in his house.

During a recent appearance on  Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton, Johnson shared that Jaycee is “doin’ great,” and that he’s fat and happy. The perfect recipe for a happy baby, right? But Johnson later shared that he’d be a lot happier if Jaycee were obsessed with his father, but unfortunately for him, he’s still in the phase where he’s obsessed with his mama.

“The biggest difference is that with my girls, they were daddy’s little girls. They loved to cuddle and snuggle up. But anytime Brandi walks in the room, he goes ‘Mama, mama.’ So I’m chopped liver around my house.”

Johnson also noted that it’s really sweet to see his two girls step into their roles as big sisters, and that Jaycee is surrounded by so much love.

“He’s spoiled rotten. Not only does he have Brandi, but he also has those two little girls. It’s a beautiful thing to watch.”

Rounding out the interview, Johnson admitted that he never thought he’d have a six-month-old at close to 40 years old, but he wouldn’t have it any other way, and he feels like his family of three is perfect with the addition of Jaycee Daniel Johnson.

“I didn’t picture myself being 38 years old with a six-month-old. It’s one of the best things that’s ever happened. We could not be more thankful.”

It sounds like this little boy is growing up in a household full of love, laughter, and so much joy. I know Cody Johnson fans love seeing him step into the role of a boy dad.
