Ella Langley Just Surpassed Everyone In Country Music on Spotify… Except For Morgan Wallen

Ella Langley

The generational run continues.

If you think its been hard to keep up with all the headlines surrounding Ella Langley and her generational run over the past six months, I wouldn’t even blame you at this point. After riding the highs of 2024’s Riley Green collaboration, “you look like you love me” all the way into the end of 2025, the Alabama native dropped what can only be described as a cultural phenomenon at this point with “Choosin’ Texas.”

As it stands today, “Choosin’ Texas” is the longest-running #1 hit by a female country artist on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 (seven weeks), the only country song by a woman to triple up and go #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot Country and Country Airplay chart simultaneously and just the seventh country song solely recorded by a woman to go #1 on the Hot 100 in the history of the chart.

In case that wasn’t enough, thanks to the success of her sophomore album, Dandelion, which debuted at #1 on the all genre Billboard 200 and sold 169,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week, Langley became just the second woman in history to hold the #1 album and song in the U.S. simultaneously with a country song/album. Of course, Taylor Swift was the first, going #1 with Red (Taylor’s Version) and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” back in 2021.

Fresh off a huge weekend, which featured the debut of her show-stopping duet with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” and viral Stagecoach set that featured none other than Theo Von replacing Riley Green on “you look like you love me,” Langley achieved another career high this week.

As of Wednesday, April 29th, Langley has leapfrogged into the #2 spot among country artists on Spotify with a staggering 27.6 monthly listeners, passing the likes of superstars such as Luke Combs, Zach Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Jelly Roll and more.

Ironically, we recently published an article back on February 27th taking a look at the Top 10 country artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify. At the time, Langley held the #6 spot with 19.9 million. Thanks to the continued success of “Choosin’ Texas,” the release of Dandelion and the added boost from the aforementioned Wallen collaboration, she gained an extra 7.7 million listeners in just over 60 days. Though there’s no hard data to grasp on to, in my time covering music, I have yet to see an artist gain that many listeners in such a short time frame — the numbers she’s putting up are simply unreal.

Of course, she’s now only second to Wallen who currently has an incredible 34.3 million per month. And while I don’t see her passing him any time soon, it’s not outside of the realm of possibility given her current trajectory.

After a decade of women continually being overlooked in country music and superstars like Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood entering the back-half of their careers, it felt like the genre was in desperate need of another superstar. With Langley, it looks like we have found it and then some.
