He Likes “Blondes, Brunettes, Redheads,” & Carly Pearce Isn’t Worried About It One Bit In Sassy New Song, “You Can Have Him”

Carly Pearce

Today, Carly Pearce released a sassy new song called “You Can Have Him,” which she wrote with Tofer Brown, Carter Faith and Lauren Hungate. It certainly leans into her Kentucky roots in terms of the production, and the lyrics are irresistibly funny, as she finds herself without a care in the world as her man every blonde, brunette and redhead in his vicinity.

He’s the kind of guy that thinks anyone is his type after four tequilas, and Carly is not worried about him one bit… if some other girl is able to tempt him away from her, it’s fair game… basically, “if you can take him, you can have him”:

“He likes blondes, brunettes, and redheads
Named Rachel, Sarah and Mary-Margaret
And I ain’t sayin’ he’s easy, but he sure ain’t picky
And he’s had about four tequilas, so I bet he thinks you’re pretty

If he’s lookin’ at you that way with a look on his face
That says ‘I can whisk you away,’ go get at him
If you can take him, you can have him
If you make him wanna flirt in your denim mini skirt
And he’s workin’ up the nerve
If it’s lookin’ like he loves you, you should ask him
If you can take him, you can have him”

Produced by Pearce alongside Ben West, “You Can Have Him” finds Pearce leaning into her roots with her signature Kentucky twang backed by a heavy dose of steel guitar, bass, fiddle and dobro. Of the new song, Carly says she wanted to drop it as a gift to her fans on her birthday this year, and she calls “You Can Have Him” a “fun one [she] wrote for the girls,” which is a “lighthearted homage” to her home state:

“Surprise! My fans have done so much for me that for my birthday this year, I wanted to give something back to them. This is a fun one I wrote for the girls. A lighthearted and playful homage to my Kentucky roots and the traditional songs I grew up listening to on the Grand Ole Opry, it’s a fun preview of what’s to come with my next album. Hope you love it as much as I do!”

Carly is so good at these traditional, yet perfectly bold and humorous country songs that are very much in the vein of songs that Loretta and Dolly were putting out during the prime of their career, and it’s what I love so much about her music. She’s never afraid to go there, and when she does, she’s going to tell the story with humor and wit, and of course, unabashed honesty.

It’s another great release, and I’ve loved every single song she’s put out as she continues to tease her fifth studio album. Do yourself a favor and check it out:

Carly has put out several singles over the last couple months, with the most recent ones being “Church Girl” and of course, her duet with Riley Green, “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay.” Carly hasn’t officially announced the album yet, but she’s off to a super solid start with all of these singles, and I can’t wait to hear what else she has in the works.
