Country fans might have discovered Cheyenne Dalton through Zach Top, but I have a feeling we are going to get to know her beyond that as well.
It’s rare for fans to know the band members as well as they know the performing artist, but that’s not the case with a few members of Zach Top’s band. When Zach Top broke out onto the scene, he stood on stage next to a mean guitar player, Cheyenne Dalton, who also knew how to tear up the fiddle.
Dalton had previously shared that she and her husband, Jimmy, who is (or possibly was?) also in Top’s touring band, knew Zach Top when he was playing on the bluegrass scene. They would often see him at local festivals and shows, and they formed a friendship.
Once ZT blew up and was ready to get on the road, Cheyenne was hired as a “utility player,” playing guitar, mandolin, and fiddle and providing harmonies for the “Cold Beer & Country Music” singer. Dalton was very candid, sharing that she had a lot to learn about guitar, as she had to learn it to become a member of the band. But she busted her tail and made it happen, and began living out her dream with Zach Top and the rest of the band.
Once fans began recognizing the pretty woman on stage with Zach Top, it did not take long for her to build her own following. Dalton grew quickly online, sharing behind-the-scenes clips of the crew on tour, and she blew up among country fans for her incredible vocals. During their sets, Dalton would step out and cover country classics like “Suds in the Bucket” by Sara Evans or “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” by Shania Twain.

Dalton became an integral and beloved part of Zach Top’s band, however, the era has sadly come to a close.
Cheyenne Dalton took to social media this afternoon, April 22, to share that fans will no longer see her on stage next to the Washington native. Dalton was straight up with fans, saying she was let go from her position with Zach Top, and that it was unexpected.
“Let’s talk about it…
A little over a month ago, I was let go from my position with ZT. While this was unexpected, I want to thank all of you for following along with me on all of my adventures. I’ll miss all of the fun, playing great music, and meeting every one of you. I couldn’t have done this without all of your kindness and encouragement. You all built up my confidence, and I have transformed into who I am today because of you!
I’m back home in Missouri now, and although I’m not sure what comes next, I’ll still be here posting my daily life. If you choose to stay around, I thank you! Who knows, maybe someday I’ll put out some of my own music for the world to hear.”
Dalton’s absence from the stage will be felt by fans. But I do not doubt that we will see and hear from this talented woman again.
According to comments, Dalton’s husband has also stepped away from the band, which means a full rebuild is underway for Zach Top. While it’s heartbreaking for fans who have been following this crew around since the early days, this means a new chapter is on the horizon for all involved. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for a major label artist to get a band overhaul once the lead singer starts to blow up… especially in the mainstream.
We wish Dalton the best on this next chapter, and we wouldn’t be opposed to her putting out some of her own music for the world to hear.
