The living legend himself has done it again. Today, Willie Nelson released the next song from his forthcoming album Dream Chaser called “We’d Make A Good Movie.” Dream Chaser is his 79th solo studio album and 156th album overall Dream Chaser, and is set for release on May 29th.
The record will:
“Bring together a collection of reflective, story-driven songs focused on relationships, personal growth, and life on the road. Rooted in classic songwriting traditions with a modern perspective, the album balances intimate narratives with universal themes of perseverance, timing, and clarity.”
It’s nothing short of impressive, to say the least, that Willie is right around the corner from his birthday on April 29th, when he’ll turn 93-years-old, and he continues to put out music, and tour, like he did when he was first getting started just about.
Even in the last several years, he’s put out a good five albums, one of which won the Grammy for Best Country Album in 2023 for his A Beautiful Time record. He was nominated once again last year in the Best Traditional Country Album category for his album Oh What a Beautiful World, in addition to receiving a nomination for Best Americana Album for Last Leaf on the Tree in the same ceremony.
“We’d Make A Good Movie,” which he wrote with Buddy Cannon and Bobby Tomberlin, is a beautiful love song about how his wife, Annie, and their love has brought him so much joy. The relationship hasn’t been without the normal ups and downs most couples deal with, but they’ve managed to get through it all and are still very much in love. It’s the kind of story that “would win an Oscar,” but not because it’s perfect… because they persevered through it all and found real, deep love:
“It could start out by showing how I was such an empty man
And that I started growing when you took my hand
There’d be a lot of drama, a lot of make up scenes
Falling in and out of love on the silver screen
We’d make a good movie, I can just see it now
The story of us and our great love would win an Oscar, no doubt
And it would be one that everyone would wanna see

To still be putting out music like this as he inches towards his mid-90s is really beyond what I can put into words, and he just doesn’t miss and never, ever has. If Willie Nelson isn’t the GOAT, I’m not sure who is.
