Carrie Underwood has managed to navigate Hollywood while keeping her faith, and that’s nothing short of impressive.
The current “American Idol” judge has always been outspoken about her Christian faith, and in 2021, she took home the Grammy award for Best Roots Gospel Album for her My Savior album, which is still one of my favorite projects she’s ever done.
During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Carrie talked about how she’s managed to stay grounded throughout so many years of personal success. She knows that the entertainment industry is “not real life,” so she doesn’t let herself get too caught up in things in this business that ultimately don’t matter:
“Faith is the thing that can keep you grounded. When you’re in the entertainment industry, there’s a lot of things that, and I’ve said this before, it’s just not real life. You can get caught up in a lot.”
She added that it’s obviously a “self-serving business,” because everything revolves around her from a career standpoint, and she admitted that it’s easy to “lose your roots real fast”:
“You’re kind of in a self-serving business. Everybody around you is there to make sure you’re good, and you’re happy, and you have everything you need, and I feel like you can start to… you can lose your roots real fast, you know. So I think faith is the only way to keep you grounded.”
It’s a very honest thing to admit, and while I’m sure she’s had her moments where she did let herself get carried away (we’re all human, after all), she really has seemed to manage to keep her faith at the forefront of her life and is raising her little boys to do the same.
I can only imagine how people in Hollywood have pushed her to stray from that, but she never has, and it’s something to respect and admire because even in country music, that’s often not the case even if it might look that way from the outside looking in. We all know Hollywood, for the most part, has no interest in propping up or sharing the Gospel, so I commend Carrie for continuing to do so regardless of anything else.
Carrie of course won “Idol” back in 2005 and has gone onto have an incredible career, and this new journey as a judge has allowed her to give the contestants some invaluable advice and guidance as she sees herself in so many of them:
“Every once in a while, I will see glimpses of myself in a hopeful, whether it’s somebody being super nervous or sometimes stylistically, just navigating this. This is weird, let’s be honest.
Being up on stage, singing in front of a whole bunch of people on TV, it’s not your everyday kind of thing. So everybody’s figuring out how to navigate all of it. But I’m just glad that we get to be a part of somebody’s journey, lots of people’s journeys.”
And speaking Carrie and her faith, she delivered an absolutely incredible performance of “How Great Thou Art” during the “Songs of Faith” episode this past week, where she was also joined by 2025 Platinum Ticket winners Filo, Canaan James Hill, and Kolbi Jordan.
It’s perfect for this Good Friday, and goodness… Carrie’s voice just never ceases to amaze me:
