Nothing tugs at the heartstrings more than seeing elderly people enjoying music. It truly embodies the phrase that music connects us all in the sense that words are timeless, melodies are never forgotten, and the meaning behind a story can still hold significant weight, no matter your age.
Over the years I have contributed to this platform, I have covered many stories of folks singing with their grandparents, grandparents sharing some of their favorite songs with their caretakers, and more. And every. single. time. I am brought to tears. It’s the only kind of content that always draws a strong reaction from me, and this viral video is no different.
In 2023, a video shared by Jordaninbetween15 on TikTok went viral, and now it’s making another round with viral success after being shared by Vince Gill’s oldest daughter, Jenny Gill. Jenny Gill shared the tender video of an older gentleman singing one of her father’s songs to his wife.
“This completely destroyed me. This might be one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen in my life… I may never recover from this.”
Jenny captioned the video.
In the footage, the woman lies in a bed, and her husband sits by her side, with the lyrics to Vince Gill’s 1991 hit “Look At Us” printed out, ready to serenade his bride. Yes, ladies, this man wrote out all the lyrics… If that’s not a sign to never settle, I don’t know what is.
Before he begins to sing, he looks at his wife and reminds her that this is their song:
“I’m going to sing to you? Do you know what our song was? Okay, you’ll hear it.”
After that, another person queues up the melody for the song, and he begins to sing the heartfelt lyrics of the love song to his true love.
“Look at us
After all these years together
Look at us
After all that we’ve been through
Look at us.”
Need a tissue yet? Because I do.
Since the video was initially shared three years ago, it has racked up nearly 15 million views, 2.8 million likes, and countless comments about their everlasting, true love. The video, however, has some sad context after reading the creator’s caption. Jordaninbetween15 shared the footage after her grandpa had passed away, noting that he was now rejoined with his wife and her grandmother in heaven.
“Today, he is singing to her in heaven. Where we will definitely miss him, I’m glad he’s not alone. I love you, Pop.”
I’m officially in a puddle. If you can make it through this video without shedding a tear, you are a different level of strong.
