If you get seasick easily… you might want to sit this one out.
Reeling in a blue marlin is every fisherman’s dream. Ironically, the actual act tends to be a nightmare. In case you didn’t know, blue marlin are massive fish, and can weigh in at over 1,500-pounds. Just try to imagine a fish the weight of a smart car swimming and surfing through the sea… that’s how big they can get. On average, the marlin weigh in at around around 300 or 400 pounds.
Even the smaller marlins can put up one heck of a fight.
That being said, a 300-pound fish is nothing to sneeze at. Especially when they are considered to be armed and dangerous. What do I mean by that? Oh, I’m just referring to the literal spear that the fish have attached to their face, which they use for hunting. Marlin aren’t afraid to use it, as they’ll swim through groups of fish, injuring them with the spear and making them easier to obtain for a meal. That spear can also be dangerous for fishermen waging war with the trophy fish.
Which brings us to this viral video that showcases a marlin’s true power while also exhibiting the teeth of the great, blue sea. Some anglers were already dealing with rough water when they hooked a blue marlin. All of the sudden, they were dealing with a sizable fish and some massive waves rocking their vessel back and forth.
I mentioned earlier that anyone that’s apt to get seasick might need to look away… those who are prone to motion sickness might want to skip this too. The video shows the boat rocking violently as one brave (?) man grabs the line and goes full-on strongman. There’s no telling how much weight is being pulled around in the deep sea tug of war match that breaks out as the boat tries to land the massive marlin that occasionally shows itself through an acrobatic breach of the water.
It all comes together for an unbelievable, heart-pounding video that puts a blue marlin’s power on full display. And it also acts as a good reference for what fishermen are willing to go through for a trophy fish:

There’s a lot of debate in the comment section about whether or not that was the best way to land the feisty marlin. Some were arguing that the man who seemed to be risking his life maybe shouldn’t have been holding onto the line like he was. Others rushed to the man’s defense, saying the gloves he was wearing were built to withstand the stress of a fishing line. All I’ll say is that I didn’t see those gloves up and around his wrists, where he was wrapping the line in order to quite literally hold the line.
That being said, it wasn’t a complete disagreement in the comments. A lot of other replies were simply complimentary and in awe of the footage that was shared:
