What a day to be an American, eh?
I’ll admit, when I first saw the 7am start time for the gold medal game between USA and Canada, I was a little disappointed. Obviously, they needed to get it in before the closing ceremony, but it’s just so early for a hockey game. Hindsight being 20/20… I was dead wrong.
I have been watching highlights, replays, interviews, and behind the scenes content all day. ALL DAY. My entire day has been nothing but enjoying this historic Team USA victory. America and hockey. All damn day.
We’re talking like 12 straight hours of Team USA hockey, toothless Jack Hughes loving America, Jack Eichel getting emotional, the boys cranking Toby Keith in the locker room, the Tkachuk brothers, Johnny Hocky tributes, Dylan Larkin hoisting 1980 USA legend Mike Eruzione on his shoulders at the bar, all the Canadian tears, and last but not least, the Director of the FBI slamming beers with the boys.
Yup, Kash Patel is apparently a BIG USA Hockey guy.
“Unity, Sacrifice, Attitude- what it takes to be the best in the world. These men live and breathe it. Now Team USA are gold medal champions, legends standing on the shoulders of giants. Thank you for representing the greatest country on earth, in the greatest game ever created. Congrats boys.”
Now… OF COURSE people are already having a meltdown about this. All the usual suspects are going into full outrage mode on X, whining about how the Director the FBI is “on vacation” in Italy on the dime of the American taxpayers. Also… HILARIOUS to see Canadians mad about this. We live rent free in your head, and now, we also own your sport.
And I’ll just say that as an American taxpayer, one who pays quite a lot of taxes actually, I’m completely fine with a few of my bucks going towards the FBI Director’s plane to watch Team USA in the Winter Olympics. Hell, I’d buy the man a beer myself if I was in Milan. Personally, I like my FBI Directors to be passionate about America. I want everyone who works for this country to love this country with a fiery passion… maybe some of our other Olympic athletes could take some notes?
Kash has already addressed it on X saying he was invited to celebrate by the team:
“For the very concerned media – yes, I love America and was extremely humbled when my friends, the newly minted Gold Medal winners on Team USA, invited me into the locker room to celebrate this historic moment with the boys- Greatest country on earth and greatest sport on earth.”
And not that I really feel the need to defend him from the horde of mindless clowns who are going to continue to make this the biggest story in the news for the next week, but just for context, Patel also detailed some of the FBI work he was doing in Italy.
