For the first time in 46 years, AKA the first time in my lifetime, Team USA Hockey are gold medal winners in the Winter Olympics. Team Canada had the Americans on their heels for most of the game, but thanks to an impressive performance from Connor Hellebuyck and some overtime magic from Jack Hughes, history was made.
Just an incredible effort from this group all the way around.
The boys also showed some love to late teammate and American hockey icon, Johnny Gaudreau:
We know this team is full of grit and determination, we know they love each other, but the postgame speech from Jack Hughes really gave us a look at what this team is all about… playing for their country. Simply put, these boys love America, they love American hockey and they couldn’t be more honored to wear the red, white and blue for the American people:
“This is all about our country right now. I love the USA, I love my teammates, Its unbelievable. The USA hokey brotherhood is so strong we had so much support from ex players. I’m so proud to be American today, so proud.”
It’s a shame more American Olympic athletes don’t feel that way…
He then praised goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for an unbelievable performance to keep Team USA in the game when they were outshot 42-28:
“Unbelievable game by Hellebuyck, he was our best player tonight by a mile, unbelievable game. Unreal game by our team, just a ballsy, gutsy win, that’s American hockey right there. That’s a great Canadian team, but we’re USA, we’re so proud to be American’s, tonight was all for the country.”
No doubt about it, this 2026 men’s team is going to inspire generations of American hockey players… a new era is upon us. Get excited.
