“Drummer Never Missed A Beat” – Video Of Texas Musician Eating It During Stockyards Performance Goes Viral (Again)

Man down in Cowtown.

The Fort Worth Stockyards are always going to lead to some unpredictable and wild nights, yet also some of the most fun and memorable. Whether you are taking banana pudding shots between songs at the White Elephant Saloon, throwing back a few brews at Second Rodeo, or two-stepping the night away at Lil’ Red’s Longhorn Saloon, there are plenty of watering holes to match whatever vibe you are on for the night.

But one bar that’s always delivered good music and a memorable crowd is Filthy McNasty’s Saloon. The long-running tavern is a staple on Exchange Ave, serving as a perfect dive bar spot. The customers of Filthy McNasty’s always know how to get down… and so do the musicians that they hire.

Recently, a clip has gone viral online of a hired musician playing at Filthy McNasty’s, but instead of putting on a stellar musical show, he put on a drunkard’s show. The musician Phil Wallace is seen lying on the ground at the start of the video, clearly over-served as he struggles to get up. Wallace then walks back onto the stage to kick the tip bucket, but loses his balance and falls backwards over the floor monitor, taking a nasty tumble off the stage.

As he goes back down to the ground, his band does not miss a beat, and the fiddle continues to rip, and the drummer keeps the beat of the tune. After Wallace is back on the ground, the bouncer makes his way over to the musician, and it’s evident that his set is coming to an early close.

It did not take long for the comments to fill with lighthearted remarks about the unfortunate fall.

“The drummer did not miss a beat.”

“We don’t need to practice Randy….”

“No guitars were hurt in the making of this video.”

“1 tequila 2tequila3tequila floor tequila.”

“I love how the drummer has zero reaction like he’s seen it 1000 times.”

“Is that Gavin Adcock?”

“Best version of ‘Gettin Drunk and Fallin Down’ by Hank Williams III I’ve ever seen.”

“George Jones impersonation!”

“Homie on the drums never flinches or misses a beat… must be a normal occurrence.”

“The band is like, whatever, just keep playing.”

“I bet it was because the guitar was too heavy.”

While the video is trending online right now, it is not a recent event; it resurfaced a few years after it all went down.

The video originally went viral in 2023, and since then, Phil Wallace has appeared on a podcast to discuss the incident. Leading into describing how he ended up on the floor, Wallace said that while playing the 4-hour show, he was getting quite a few drinks from the crowd, and then the next thing he knew, he was singing “Milk Cow Blues” upside down.

“So there I am on the floor, and I’m playing the song, still rocking, and I get up, and that’s when you see the video start. Had they got the first part where I was on my back on the floor still playing, we wouldn’t even be talking right now. They’d be like, ‘Oh, this old guy still thinks he’s a rocker.’

But no they got the next part which is what you see, which is where I get up, step forward on the stage and I think I went…I guess I tried to kick the tip bucket, which is what got me on the floor. I went back for the tip bucket because I guess in my mind I wasn’t going to be defeated, so what you see is me go for one more kick at the tip bucket and then it’s just backwards from there.”

Later in the conversation, Wallace says this moment isn’t what he wants to be known for as a musician, and while he’s had his fair share of bad moments on stage, he hopes music lovers will start to recognize him for his good moments.

The whole conversation is really good, and Wallace even touches on how there was a lot more going on in this moment than just a drunken moment, and he was fighting his own demons during this period of life. While Wallace can look back on this moment without being upset that it went viral online, it is a good reminder that humorous moments might be a sign that something more serious is going on.
