Tim McGraw isn’t sure what he’d do – or where he would be – without his wife, Faith Hill.
The country music power couple has stood the test of time ever since they got together in the late 1990s. Tim and Faith first met one another in 1994, but they were both in relationships at the time. They responsibly ended both of their respective relationship before they started dating two years later in 1996.
They both knew they were a perfect match, and ended up getting married in October of 1996. For those not great with math, that means Hill and McGraw will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary later this year.
That’s a great reason to celebrate, but if you ask Tim McGraw, he’s celebrating his significant other every single day. He told interviewer Tim Ferriss on The Tim Ferriss Show that Faith Hill single-handedly changed his life for the better once they got together.
McGraw revealed that he struggled with drinking and drug abuse as he became more and more well known. He firmly believes that if he hadn’t met Faith, his life and career would look a whole lot different:
“I was drinking a lot. That didn’t stop after we got married, but she beat it out of me after a while. I was just doing everything. I was a kid in a candy store. Especially after I got successful. I had never had any money before, never been around any of that stuff before. Then all of the sudden, it became a tool that was useful until it wasn’t. When Faith came along, I was burning it wide open. She started tapping the brakes for me.”
Obviously, a life partner is there to love you unconditionally. However, one of the most important things a significant other can do for you is hold you accountable. From how Tim McGraw talks about their relationship, Hill was the person that finally got him off of drugs and alcohol and on the right track.
As to why McGraw let go of his own life and followed the advice and guidance of his wife, he says the decision came from the immense love he has for Faith, and the security he feels in their relationship. Deep down, McGraw knew that if he wouldn’t to keep Faith Hill in his life, he had to change:
“Once I met her, I didn’t want to lose her. She’s magic. Not just her singing and her looks. Of course, that’s all a bonus. But as a person, she’s just magic. She just lights up a room, and she lit me up. And still does. I wouldn’t be the same artist had I not met her.
I certainly wouldn’t have the career that I’ve had, had I not met her. I would have burned out really quickly, I think. Especially if I had lost her after I found her… I definitely would have been in downward spiral.”
If that’s not confirmation that Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are supposed to be together, I don’t know what is.
