Too much demand for the King.
If you recall, back in October, George Strait announced a one-night only show in Death Valley, home of the Clemson Tigers in Clemson, South Carolina, at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026. Here, he’d call upon none other than fellow Texan troubadour, Cody Johnson, along with the stellar Wyatt Flores.
In November, he’d up the ante, announcing not one but two separate shows at Texas Tech’s Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th. Similar to the Clemson show, he’d be calling on a mix of young star power with Miranda Lambert and hot up-and-comer, Hudson Westbrook, opening night one and reigning CMA New Artist of the Year, Zach Top, as well as the severely underrated Dylan Gossett setting the stage for night two.
For a time, many thought those major stadium shows were all Strait had on the docket for 2026. That, however, changed early yesterday morning.
Yesterday, he turned heads by announcing not one but two shows at the iconic Moody Center in Austin, Texas, with the underrated traditionalist, William Beckmann, on April 9th and 11th.
Given the fact that Strait has only announced a handful of dates throughout the year, the demand for tickets to see the living legend has been through the roof. Even though general sale has not even begun for the first two shows at the Moody Center, Strait has already added an additional two shows due to overwhelming demand, this time with the red-hot Carter Faith.
Just announced, the “Troubadour” singer will be performing at the Moody Center on Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th with Faith, bringing his total shows for the months of April and May up to seven. Additionally, Strait’s team would note in their X post regarding the dates that these are his final shows scheduled throughout the year.
“These are his final shows of 2026.”
In case you’re somehow unfamiliar with Faith at this point, she’s undeniably one of the brightest up-and-coming female artists in the entire genre at this point. After releasing her debut single, “Leaving Tennessee,” in 2020, the self-described “cowgirl hippie and sometimes kind of trippy” has flown up the ranks over the past two years in particular with her patented 70s-inspired sound. This was best displayed on her debut album, Cherry Valley, which was released back in October and quickly flew to the top of many Top Albums of 2025 lists, thanks in part to infectious, sassy tracks such as “Grudge,” “Betty” and “Bar Star.”
Presale for the back-to-back shows with Faith on May 15th and 16th begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT with signups being available right now. General sale, on the other hand, will begin this Friday, January 30th, at 10 a.m. CT.
As previously mentioned, these seven shows scheduled for April and May are his ONLY shows set for 2026. If you recall, back in 2012, he announced that he was retiring from full-length tours. Obviously, that hasn’t stopped him from still going on limited runs over the past 14 years. With that being said, however, at 73 years old, it’s becoming clear that he’s been slowly taking a step back from touring throughout the year. With fewer and fewer shows being scheduled per year for the King, I would not hesitate to buy tickets if you’re in the Austin area.
Before you go, fire up one of his all-time classics, “The Chair.”
